Whilst there, the President delivered several lectures, and they had the opportunity to meet with many alumni, students (and prospective students), benefactors and other members and friends of Wolfson. From the Senior TutorDr Susan Larsen joined Wolfson in September and she's been getting to know the students and other members of the College community. After a busy Michaelmas Term, she shares her first impressions of life, study and research at Wolfson as well as her views on the quality of the honey lavender cake served in the Coffee Bar. The new website has launchedThe revamped College website went live in early November. With a more visual and engaging layout and excellent search capabilities, it makes a great platform for us to share stories about Wolfson members — so do send us your news and be sure to check the site regularly for upcoming events, blogs and other announcements. Awards for Wolfson alumnus – and an upcoming exhibitionArchitect and Wolfson MSt Building History graduate Tszwai So has received another accolade for his work. The Belarusian Memorial Chapel in London won the Religion Category at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) in Amsterdam. Tszwai is originally from Hong Kong and is the Director of London-based Spheron Architects. The Fine Arts Committee is very pleased to announce that Tszwai will hold an exhibition at Wolfson between 29 June and 22 September 2019, Emotional Architecture: Understanding Attachment to Space. We are very much looking forward to what promises to be a unique and exciting show. Photo by Mikalaj Packajeu New WCSA CommitteeThe 2018-2019 WCSA Committee features some familiar faces in addition to some brand new ones. Former WCSA Sports Officer Dennis Mubaiwa has joined forces with PhD student David Izuogu to serve as Co-Presidents; new members include Secretary Julian M. Siebert and Ents Officers Vlad Ilin and Timothy Trayhurn. They have a full term of events planned for Lent, including pub quizzes, theatre trips, a Valentine's bop, and much more. Student Garden Sprouts The beneficial effect of gardening on health, including mental health, is well documented. Now Wolfson students can experience the pleasures of getting their hands in the soil and growing their own crops. Ably aided by Chris Clarke and Senior Gardener Oscar Holgate, they already have onions, garlic, broad beans, peas and lettuce in the ground, and will be planting more crops when the soil warms in spring. Giles Yeo publishes Gene Eating Dr Giles Yeo, Fellow of Wolfson, has a new book coming out. Gene Eating takes an academic yet accessible look into the science of obesity and diet. Giles is also the winner of the 2019 JBS Haldane Lecture, which he will deliver at the Royal Institution in October 2019. Many congratulations to Giles! News from the CollegeReady to Transform?Wolfson has long been known for its dynamic and diverse lectures, exhibitions, performances and more. In the new year we will be announcing a major programme of events and activities that spans the intellectual and cultural life of the College based on the theme of Transformation. Alumni EventsThe Development & Alumni Relations office enjoyed hosting the Commemoration of Benefactors Dinner on 15 November. The event was attended by 130 guests, who enjoyed a reception and dinner, where several students spoke about the ways that the generous support of our donors has enabled their studies. New Books by Wolfson FellowsDr Jane McLarty has been busy since stepping down as Senior Tutor; she recently published a new book based on her PhD thesis, Thecla's Devotion. Fellow and Admissions Tutor, Dr Michael Hrebeniak, also has a recent publication, a booklet chronicling the lives of working people in Barnwell, Cambridge during World War l. Lent Term Arts, Music & MoreA new programme on the topic of Entrepreneurship has been launched at Wolfson to explore the many facets of entrepreneurship through panel discussions, talks and workshops. After a successful inaugural talk by alumnus Ronjon Nag in December, the next event will be with the CEO of Cambridge Enterprise, Tony Raven, on 22 January 2019. Details here. Past and Present: Abstract studies by Jonathan Meuli opens on 19 January and runs until 17 March 2019. Some of the artist's most important abstract studies in watercolour or gouache as well as a number of significant oil paintings are on show, many for the first time. Details here. Director of Music Lyn MORE TO EXPLORE. The Science Society hosted two scientific luminaries this term, Professor Sir John Gurdon and Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz; photos from the events are on Flickr. There were some frightfully good costumes at the WCSA Hallowe'en dinner and also at the Emma Sprints Boat Races. The Bursar made a Christmas video for charity.
