Welcome - Issue II

Tom A Hawk,  Editor In Chief

Greetings .  Volume 2 of our Newsletter was planned for late August but, as the kids say these days "s**t happens".

In all seriousness the volunteers running the History Hangar website have been seriously busy with catching up on their personal stuff and learning / implementing a lot of "behind the scenes" technical stuff which will keep the website on the cutting edge.  I'm sure you'll understand.

History Hangar Society Formed

On July 23rd a meeting was held in Toronto to discuss the problem of the ongoing financing of the History Hangar Website.

In attendance were: Bill Bishop {400sqn}; Garry Alexander {400 sqn}; Ron Wylie (400 sqn, 411 Sqn, 2ARW); Mike Gantwerger {400 sqn}; John Tapper {411 sqn}.  Gerry Gilroy {400 sqn, 2TASS} was unable to attend.

The Problem: Since its inception in early 2011 the History Hangar Website has been financed solely by Bill Bishop.  The 400 Squadron Historical Society has been kind enough to reimburse Bill, on an annual basis for his expenses.

With the increasing costs of running the website, the strain on Bill's finances, and  the limited financial resources remaining in 400 Squadron Historical Society,  the website was in serious danger of having to shut down operation.

The Resolution:  It was unanimously agreed that a non-profit society be incorporated with the following purposes:

' To provide a permanent digital repository of history related items for 400,411 Squadrons and 2 Air Reserve Wing, bringing an accurate, interesting and entertaining experience for current and past members, friends and future generations.

' To raise monies sufficient to cover the annual opertational costs of running The Histoy Hanagar website, through the sales of membership andlor donations.

This was done and incorporation of the HISTORY HANGAR SOCIETY was approved on August 30, 2013 by the registry of joints stocks in the Province of Nova Scotia.

Full details of the Society can be viewed under the new SOCIETIES BAY on the History Hangar.  To view it , click the History Hangar Society under the LIMKS in the sidebar.

MEMBERSHIP NOW OPEN

Membership is now open to anyone who supports the purposes (mission) of the History Hangar Society.

The annual membership fee is just  $30.00.  After paying approximately $5.00 expenses (membership card, mailing, service fees) the History Hangar Society will net $25.00.

We are targeting 100 members per year which will more than cover our anticipated $1,000.00 operating costs and provide for an investment of the balance in a daily interest savings account to build a nest egg to be used when annual membership fees drop below our annual operating costs.  It is hoped that this will keep the History Hangar Website running for many years to come.

Another new BAY, entitled MEMBERSHIP has been added to the website.  Clicking the MEMBERSHIP BAY and following the simple instructions  facilitates payment of the membership fee either by Credit Card or Pay Pal account, or by cheque.  Under the LINKS in the sidebar please click Membership Join.

411 Squadron Benevolent Fund

Also formed this summer was the 411 Squadron Benevolent Fund with John Tapper and John Kitay acting as administrators.

The purpose of this fund is to provide comfort to ex 411 members and their families in time of illness or after the death of an ex member.

Full details of this fund can be seen under the SOCIETIES BAY with links to make a donation to the fund.  You may view this by clicking the 411 Benevolent Fund under the LINKS shown in the sidebar.

IN CLOSING

Bill Bishop, Webmaster

Even though I'm a 'Bishop' I'll resit the urge to preach.  I'll simply say that I recognize not everyone feels as strongly as I (and other volunteers) do about the need to preserve  for posterity and future generations, the documents, photos, stories, and other material related to our variious squadrons' history.

I can assure you that all volunteers will contine to put their best efforts, and a considerable amount of time,  toward meeting our objectives.

What we ask of you is to support us through the purchase of an annual membership in the History Hangar Society.  This financial support will ensure we have the tools to do the job and to ensure we have the best platform to present our history to members and the public.

I urge you to ACT NOW !
