Niagara Region and City of St. Catharines hosting open house on Nov. 8 about closure of St. Paul Street West and CNR Bridge

Oct. 31, 2023

Niagara Region and the City of St. Catharines will be hosting an open house to share details about the forthcoming closure of St. Paul Street West (Regional Road 81) at the St. Paul Street West CNR (humpback) bridge expected to begin Nov. 20.

Niagara Region has been actively monitoring the bridge’s condition since the load restrictions and lane closures put in place in December 2022 in response to the condition of the bridge at that time. The most recent inspection found a significant increase in the level of deterioration of the bridge. In its current condition, the bridge would not be able to carry winter maintenance vehicles. As a result, Niagara Region, in consultation with Canadian National Railways, will be closing the bridge to all vehicular traffic to maintain public safety before winter begins.

Open House Details

Date: Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023

Time: 6 - 8 p.m.

Location: Ridley College, Williams Hall

Address: 2 Ridley Rd., St. Catharines

The open house will address:

  • St. Paul Street West (Regional Road 81) and bridge closure
  • Bridge removal and replacement project timelines
  • Detour routes
  • Traffic mitigation plan for the surrounding areas
  • Updates on other Niagara Region and City of St. Catharines construction projects in the St. Catharines GO Station Precinct area

The open house will consist of a presentation and the opportunity for community members to ask questions of the project team.
