Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day on Monday, Sept. 26th!

We invite all of our grandparents and special friends to spend the morning with our wonderful students on Monday, September 26th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. during Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day!

Grandparents and friends may RSVP to the school office at (904) 246-2466 so that we can prepare accordingly.

Students should come to school at the regular time, and guests should arrive at 9:30 a.m. A reception will be held for our guests at 9:30 a.m. in Stormes Hall. An all-school chapel service will take place at the sanctuary of St. Paul's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church at 10:00 a.m., and then guests will be able to accompany their students at 10:45 a.m. to the classrooms. Photo areas will be available at both McCormick Hall and Stormes Hall to capture photos of families together. Again, this event is for students, grandparents, and special friends only.

Dismissal will take place at 11:30 a.m. that day, and Extended Day will be available for those who need it. There will be no After-school Activities available on this day.

Book Writing and Illustrating Presentation Coming on September 30th

Beaches Episcopal School is proud to offer a Book Writing and Illustrating Presentation for students in grades PreK4 through sixth grade in late September. Two wonderful authors and an illustrator will speak to our students during this special event on Friday, Sept. 30th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in Hope Hall.

This presentation ties in perfectly with our theme this year of "Readers are Leaders!" We hope it will engage our students to discover how writing skills they are learning in school apply to the real world. The goal of this event is to awaken a desire in our students to not only love reading, but to also ignite a passion to utilize language and art to express themselves.

Guests will include Jane R. Wood, an author who uses mystery, adventure, and kids' natural love of animals to capture the imagination of young readers while also teaching them about history of places such as St. Augustine, Amelia Island, the St. Johns River, Savannah, and Boston. She will share photographs and personal anecdotes about the people, places, and animals featured in her books.

Also presenting to the children will be Mark W. Adams, illustrator, and Linda Smigaj, author, whose "Fly on the Wall Series" brings history to life in a third person perspective that captures the attention of children and helps them feel as though they are part of the story.

Parents, we encourage you to partner with us in fostering a love of reading in your family. Books take us places, move us, and inform our hearts and minds. Elementary school is where that foundation is established, and we are excited to stand with you so that our young readers become leaders in and out of the classroom.

Denim Day on Sept. 30th to Benefit "Unravel Pediatric Cancer"

We ask that all of our families support "Unravel Pediatric Cancer" during Denim Day on Friday, Sept. 30th. Two years ago, a friend of one of Niki Philip's best friends lost her seven year old daughter Jennifer to DIPG, which is a type of terminal brain cancer.  After her death, her family created "Unravel Pediatric Cancer."  Mrs. Philips, who is a BES parent, has always wanted to help this organization in whatever way she could, and so she approached us about supporting it through Denim Day proceeds.

The month of September is also "Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month." Mrs. Philips placed 10 beautiful dragon flies on garden stakes in the McCormick courtyard one Friday in September, as part of what the organization calls "fluttering." We enthusaiastic ask all of our families to give to this worthwhile organization that directly impacts kids' lives.

BES students may bring in $1 or more on Friday, Sept. 30th, and they will be able to wear jeans and uniform tops.

Thank you for your generosity.
