Key points

  • The Department of Health has issued a new Disability Provider Alert. The alert contains updated advice about the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

Department of Health provider alert (18 June 2021)

The Department of Health has issued a COVID-19 vaccination – Disability Provider Alert 18 June 2021.

The alert contains important information about the continued rollout of the COVID-19, including ATAGI renewing their advice on the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

The ATAGI recommends Pfizer as the preferred vaccine for people aged under 60 years.

If one dose of AstraZeneca has already been taken, and there were no severe side effects, there is no reason a second dose of AstraZeneca cannot be taken.

It is important that NDIS participants are supported to make informed decisions about the COVID-19 vaccine. If you are assisting people with disability to either receive the vaccine or to seek medical advice about the vaccine, you should talk to them about the COVID-19 vaccination program, and support them to get the information they need. Our provider alert of 9 June 2021 has information to assist you with this.

You can find resources and information about the COVID-19 vaccine rollout from the Department of Health’s dedicated COVID-19 vaccine webpages for disability service providers and people with disability. They have now created a dedicated vaccine information webpage for disability support workers.
