Celebrate Canada's Healthy Workplace Month

Together for a better workplace

Canada's Healthy Workplace Month is taking place during the month of October! Take the healthy workplace challenge and strengthen wellness initiatives in your workplace all month , or better yet all year! Workplaces can organize weekly activities to empower employees to improve their physical, psychological, social and community well-being.

A healthy workplace is one in which employee physical and psychological health is a top priority, and employers establish systems and programs to help achieve and maintain exemplary health. Everyone has a role to play in supporting employee health and by working together, you can make a difference in your workplace.

World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day

Sept. 10 2022 is World Suicide Prevention day.
In Canada, we lose 11 people every day to suicide with many more people impacted by these losses. World Suicide Prevention Day is a chance for everyone to join together to promote an understanding of suicide and those impacted by a suicide attempt or loss. This year’s theme to Create Hope Through Action encourages understanding by reaching in and sharing experiences, and giving people the confidence to take action. Suicide prevention is everyone’s responsibility.

Back to routine vaccines

Protect your children from vaccine preventable diseases this school year by ensuring their routine vaccinations are up-to-date. If your child missed the opportunity to receive any routine vaccine(s) over the past two years, it is important to get them back on schedule. Connect with your health care provider or contact the Vaccine Team to check which vaccine(s) your child may need.
All vaccines for school-aged students must be reported to Public Health.

What do employees want?

Attracting and retaining talent in today's competitive labour market is a must for Niagara workplaces

Niagara Workforce Planning Board (NWPB) will be offering an anonymized Employee Attraction & Retention survey for workplaces to help employers (leaders, HR personnel, and business owners) gauge what is important to their employees and how to best support them. This survey will be of no cost and will be open to all organizations.

Check out NWPB's recent blog, "How to Attract, Engage and Retain Employees" which includes recommendations that can help craft employee attraction and retention strategies, informed by conversations with local employers, local data, and other insightful research.
Hint: workplace cultures that center employees’ health and wellbeing are the ones that tend to be the most attractive!
