COMMITTEE HEARINGS
On August 14th, I attended the Senate Committee on Government Organization hearing in Austin.  We discussed ways to improve the state’s contracting processes, and I asked vital questions about how well various agencies were doing in meeting their Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB) goals. Additionally, the Senate Committee on Education held a hearing on August 26th  to discuss STAAR writing scores for elementary, middle and high school students and to receive updates on laws passed last session that affected employment and breakfast opportunities for certain public school students. Please contact my office at (713) 923-7575 for more information.

MESSAGE FROM SYLVIA

September is special because we celebrate workers. We celebrate Labor Day to honor workers as the real creators of wealth and their honest effort. Unions have played a key role in all this. If you have ever received a paid vacation, health benefits, sick days, minimum wage, etc., then you have benefitted from the hard work of unions. Let's keep marching forward to make sure that minimum wage is fair and sufficient, and that all people receive equal pay for equal work. Getting there will take all of our combined effort.

Putting People First,

Sylvia
