Are you a Children’s Social Care practitioner, Team Manager or Service Leader involved in contextual safeguarding, exploitation, early help, or multi agency safeguarding?
Safeguarding risks increasingly sit beyond the family home, across peer groups, schools, neighbourhoods, online spaces, and community settings. A new, two day course “Contextual Safeguarding –Child’s Chair Approach”, equips practitioners and leaders with the clarity, confidence, and professional curiosity needed to recognise and respond to extra familial harm using a truly child centred, contextual safeguarding approach.
The course supports teams to move from incident based thinking to understanding lived experience, from single agency responses to meaningful multi agency collaboration, and from assumption led practice to evidence informed decision making.
What the Course delivers:
Participants will develop the skills to:
- Apply a child centred safeguarding approach using the Child’s Chair model to understand what children see, hear, and experience
- Demonstrate advanced professional curiosity, questioning assumptions and recognising conscious and unconscious bias
- Identify and analyse safeguarding risks beyond the home, including CSE, CCE, grooming, and peer/community based harm
- Assess how home circumstances interact with external risks and increase vulnerability
- Recognise early indicators of extra familial harm and move from behaviour focused responses to understanding underlying need
- Strengthen multi agency practice, including thresholds, information sharing, MASH/IAA processes, strategy discussions (s47), and coordinated disruption activity
- Understand how system gaps create risk and apply learning to improve coordinated safeguarding responses
- Embed trauma informed and contextual thinking, drawing on national data and serious case review learning
- Translate learning into practice with clear, actionable changes for their role, team, or organisation
- Use practical tools such as contextual mapping and professional curiosity prompts to analyse risk holistically and challenge safely
