Book via What's on at your library Children who know and understand lots of words have an easier time learning to read and write, and a better understanding of how sounds make up words. In your next story, try finding some interesting words. Read them, talk about them, and learn with your little one. Studies show vocabulary knowledge increases by up to 12% with repeated readings of the same stories. First 5 Forever is an initiative of the Queensland Government, coordinated by State Library of Queensland and delivered in partnership with local government. Here's how to get started: - Chose picture books with repetitive words and encourage children to join in - Ask children what they think an unusual word means, and allow them time to respond in their own words - At the end of the book talk about the story and some of the new words you learnt.
