St John's School Newsletter Term 4 Week 9 St John's is a Child Safe School where all children are respected and are protected from harm. Principal's Message Dear Parents, Welcome to Week 9! Transition Days - Last Friday we welcomed our 2021 Foundation students to school. The students were welcomed over three separate sessions during the day. The students took part in some literacy activities and enjoyed a tour of the school. Teachers and support staff enjoyed the time getting to know each of the students. We look forward to meeting the students again this Friday. Swimming - Our swimming program began today. Last week we published to the school community out swimming timetable, please make sure you have a copy of it so you know when your child needs to bring their swimmers to school. Please make sure that all swimming items are clearly named (including towel and goggles) so we can find any lost items. School Fees - Thank you to the families who have made sacrifices to ensure that their school fees are paid. We rely on your fee payments to help pay with the all the costs associated with running our great school. Outstanding school fees are due today. Movie Day - Permissions for class special movie and lunch days were posted on PAM yesterday. Please log on and complete the form as soon as possible. There is no cost for the movie and lunch and dates are on the calendar below. Planning Day - Yesterday staff spent the day planning for 2021. In the morning we all completed out First Aid training and after that we worked together to plan curriculum and organise areas so we can be ready to begin student learning on the first school day next year. It was great to see over 10 children enjoying activities provided by TheirCare in the Mercy Centre. Tutor Funding - Last week were pleased to be informed that we would be receiving funding from the Government to employ a Tutor. The Tutor Funding is designed to employ a teacher to work with small groups of students whose learning has been adversely impacted by the pandemic. Therefore, we are delighted to announce that we have used this funding to employ Holly O’Dea to fill this role. Holly is a very experienced teacher who will ensure that the students she works with are given personalised support to catch up or to be extended in their learning. COVID changes - On Friday evening the school was informed of three changes to our current practices to ensure COVID safety. 1.That students can now use the drinking fountains at school. 2. We will no longer have a staggered end to the school day, from tomorrow all students will be dismissed at 3:15pm. Parents waiting for their child at the end of the school day must practise social distancing. 3. Parents are allowed on site provided they first phone the school to make an appointment with the staff member they wish to see, sign in and are not on the school site for any longer than 15 minutes. We will keep up our sanitising routines every day. School Banking - Yesterday we were informed by the Victorian Government that from January 202, we will not be able to offer student banking. Next week will be the last time school banking will be available. Thank you to all parents past and parents who have co-ordinated the school banking program for us. Libby Hamilton. Calendar of Events
Religious Education Week 9 Prayer Advent begins with the encouragement to stay awake and be ready for the coming of our saviour. There are no short cuts or artificial ways to do this. And we have only four weeks to prepare ourselves. It’s a short period of time, especially when we are ironically so busy with all the preparations for what we are trying to celebrate. We come as a scattered people, tossed about like leaves in a storm. From the four winds: gather us in, O God. Joining all the cosmos, the angels of heaven, and the peoples of earth, we come to worship our God. Gather us in your faithfulness and call us your people once more. Gather us in, O God Click on the Sandpiper Logo To view the latest publication Please only order off this modified list for the time being.
