Visioning the Outdoors

Flow State by Henry Friend, Visioning the Outdoors 2019 entry

Hi there,

Firstly, Happy April Fool's Day! We trust you had a good laugh at our expense this morning. Did you know that the origins of  April Fools' Day, sometimes called All Fools' Day, are uncertain. Some see it as a celebration related to the turn of the seasons, while others believe it stems from a line out of Geoffrey Chaucer's 'The Canterbury Tales' written in 1392!

QORF AGM 2019

QORF AGM 2019

The 2019 QORF AGM was held on Thursday March 14, at 7.00 pm and was attended by some of QORF's more active and committed members. The 2018 Annual Report, Management Committee reports and the financial audit were all presented.

After the Annual Report was presented and the various reports delivered, discussion turned to the membership of the Management Committee. Alana Thomson resigned from the Committee to focus on her family and her career. We welcome Denise Cox, Chief Operating Officer at Mountain Bike Australia, who was nominated and voted onto the Committee in Alana's stead.

There were also several changes to the position holders of the committee. 2018 President Ginny Mitchell stood down as President to provide solid support as a Committee Member and Allana Bold (pictured), from All About Paddling, has stepped up into the role. We thank Ginny for her time as President and wish Allana all the best in the coming months.

Angela Wright was voted in as Vice President replacing Andrew Boyle from Coefficient who, as President for many years and more recently Vice President, was a key member of the Management Committee.  We are very grateful for all the time and effort Andrew has put into these roles over the years and acknowledge the great contribution he has made. His knowledge and experience are not lost as he is staying on as a Committee Member.

Ian Heath is the new Secretary, taking over that role from Angela Wright.

John Wood

New Life Member

John Wood, a passionate supporter of: outdoor recreation; the management of indigenous protected areas; and the parks and leisure industry, was voted in as QORF's sixth Life Member.

For over 50 years John Wood has focussed his professional life on serving the parks and leisure industry in a variety of roles as a government officer, university lecturer, consultant and community volunteer. He is noted for his expertise in natural area management, parks, recreation, tourism, and open space planning in urban and rural, world heritage, national parks and wilderness areas.
