SOUNZ Contemporary Award finalists
Congratulations to Salina Fisher, Chris Gendall and Jeroen Speak, this year’s SOUNZ Contemporary Award
finalists. Salina was nominated for the award for the second time, after winning it in 2016 with Rainphase. Chris has been nominated five times before and he also won the award in 2008 with Wax Lyrical. This is the second time Jeroen has been nominated.
We will feature each finalist over the three weeks leading up to the Silver Scrolls, which take place in Dunedin on Thursday 28 September. Also congratulations to the finalists for APRA Maioha Award, the APRA Best Original Music in a Feature Film Award and APRA Best Original Music in a Series Award, including SOUNZ composer Claire Cowan, who has been nominated for the APRA Best Original Music in a Series Award for her work on the TV series Hillary.
44th International Viola Congress
The International Viola Congress takes place in Wellington 1-5 September, featuring more than 60 events, including several performances with New Zealand musicians, for representatives from 20 countries. CNZ funding for SOUNZ
SOUNZ will continue in Creative New Zealand's Toi Tōtara Haemata (Arts Leadership) Investment Programme for another two year period and will receive funding towards the 'infrastructure support for New Zealand music' to deliver benefits to wider audiences.
Toi Tōtara Haemata provides support to established arts organisations that fulfil agreed key roles in creating, presenting, distributing or encouraging participation in high-quality New Zealand arts experiences. Read more on CNZ's website.

NZCT Chamber Music Contest
Congratulations to the winner of National Best Performance of a NZ Work, Mahuta Trio from Auckland, who performed Ben Hoadley’s Oboe Trio. See all the winners here.
The winners of the National Original Composition Section were:
Benjamin Sneyd-Utting, Wellington - Toroa Rising / Piwakawaka Dancing (for string quintet) (Senior winner) and
Stefenie Pickston, Auckland - Bolero: A Short Piece for String Quartet (Junior winner)
This year the Chamber Music Contest featured 55 entries with NZ works, which included 30 different works by 17 SOUNZ composers.
