Welcome to Term Three! We have had many new teachers join our mailing list, so let’s begin with what we do, and what’s new! We are committed to supporting the learning happening in your classrooms and have been busy developing new inquiry-based resources and programs for you. We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new digital workshop ‘You Me and Sustainability’. This digital workshop joins our suite of digital programs, which are all free, and can be found here. Our brand new Student Voice page is also now live, and showcases the incredible work done by the young people at Bonython Primary School around student voice and agency. Our connections with teachers across the country are so vital to what we do; please join the conversation through our social media and head to the MoAD Learning Twitter account to stay updated on our resources. We’ve also included some sample resources in this edition. Stay safe everyone, MoAD Learning This digital workshop stems (STEMs?!) from our passion for empowering students to take real action to make the changes they want to see in their world. There is a strong Sustainability focus, but we also help students of all ages to develop that crucial connection between civic literacy and active citizenship. We use inquiry-learning strategies to encourage students to discuss, question and imagine how they can make positive changes within our democratic system. Here is Steph in the Henry Parkes Digital Studio. What ideas will your students have for making sustainable choices? Our new Student Voice page!Head here for the Student Voice podcast series, as well as ideas for encouraging your students to develop their voice and agency, like this Student Voice and Hexagon Thinking Activity. Media Literacy and Critical Thinking Skills - Political CartooningHow many ways could your students engage with the Cathy Wilcox cartoon above? Political cartoons are a great way to develop your students’ media literacy skills and understanding of the world around them. They make great hooks or creative writing stimuli. Political cartoon analysis also develops critical thinking skills and helps students understand the ways in which we can exercise our democratic rights and freedoms, and the responsibilities that come with being an active citizen. What else do we have for you?We love to create resources to support your teaching. We post these through our webpage and through our MoAD Learning Twitter account. Last week for NAIDOC Week we published a new resource every day to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultures. These activities can also be used across the year to facilitate learning from First Nations cultures and pedagogical practices. Here is an example activity that you could use at any time across the year. ‘Using Language’ connects to the Cross-Curricular Priority: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures, as well as many of the General Capabilities. How might your students exercise their Ethical Understanding or Intercultural Understanding, as they develop their literacy skills in learning words and phrases from these First Nations languages?
