THIS WEEK AT

We are sad to announce to our community that Cheryl Burke Dance will be closing its doors by the end of September. Although this closure means that Wednesday Night Hop may have to go on hiatus (hopefully brief), WE WILL BE BACK. In fact, we will continue offering the same dance lessons, live band entertainment, and social dances in these upcoming weeks! Please subscribe to our newsletter and Facebook for important updates, as well as other special events that happen in the interim.

We especially want to thank Cheryl Burke Dance for being our gracious host and valued partner for so many years, allowing us to create a thriving, exciting, and affordable option for swing dancing in the South Bay.

Swingouts - Focus on the Send-Out

Do you and your social dancing partners a favor by taking care of them during one of the most important moves in lindy hop, the Swing Out! Learn useful new ways to think about the dance, and expand your knowledge base and options for how to execute great and comfortable swingouts for both your leaders and your followers! This class focuses mostly on counts 4,5&6 of the swingout, and also deals with what the follow can do creatively when that happens!

PRE-REQUISITES: Execute a swingout, lindy circle, charleston and 6-count moves and transition between them in open and closed positions. No partner required, just bring your enthusiasm!

Connection

In this social dance of ours, it is our connection with our partners that makes it MAGIC. In this series, you will learn to play and move with connection, to listen actively to both leads and follows, and how to use that connection to build increasingly complex and great feeling dances.

PRE-REQUISITES: At least nine consecutive months of Level 1 and Level 2 including one full year of social dance, or discuss your eligibility with instructors.  Under-qualified students will be asked to transfer to Level 2 in order to strengthen their fundamentals.

10:30-11:30 w/ DJ Alex P

For those who love to swing out fast, and to shuffle even faster, we introduce the Fast Feet Room! Held in the red room for an hour after the birthday jam, with a separate DJ, playing only songs of 180 BPM or higher. Come join the sweat and the fun... if you dare ;)

Next Week: The Ivory Club Boys

The Ivory Club Boys, an offshoot of the Hot Club of San Francisco, pay tribute to jazz violinist Stuff Smith and his Onyx Club Boys of the mid-1930s. One of a handful of violinists to populate the swing era, Stuff Smith is credited with being the first to play jazz on an electrically amplified violin, forever changing its role to a frontline solo instrument on par with horn soloists.
