Greetings from HQ where we’re currently occupied with the making of Fantastic Man #43; the edits, the layouts, the page counts, the wonderful labour. ■ As much as we love our digital endeavours, the social media posts, the online pieces (most popular atm are our PEDRO PASCAL interview and, from the vaults, ‘Chanel for Men’ by CHARLIE PORTER and THE SARTORIALIST, featuring BRAD KROENIG, above), we relish print. And it’ll be a good one, promise!

And there’s lots of print-related news to share. I popped into the radically refurbished OUR LEGACY store in Soho, London. Looks great, and now bigger than before. ■ There’s a very interesting mini-selection of print products, including the intriguingly delicate super-mini zines from BlackMass Publishing. ■ They’re often not more than eight or 12 pages, with few images and even fewer words, each dedicated to a musician. Above, the one on SADE – here floating above the staircase into the basement, the shop’s a maze! ■ (And if you’re paying OUR LEGACY a visit, don’t hesitate to pop into the GOLDWIN store around the corner, too. Amsterdam-based photographer YAËL TEMMINCK has actually appeared in this newsletter before, because, completely coincidentally, he and I ended up together in a painting by amazing Chinese artist XINYI CHENG. ■ Anyway, YAËL just published an anthology of his work, called ‘Anthology’. Portraits of the greats of music, film, art and fashion, including GUS VAN SANT, JEAN PAUL GAULTIER, YOHJI YAMAMOTO and, above, STEFANO PILATI, who we adore.

The pile of books to read for after our August deadline is growing steadily. For instance ‘The Smiths’, a novella by MICHAEL BRACEWELL with a prominent fictional role for the pop group so many people are obsessed with. ■ Also, ‘The Wonderful World That Almost Was: A Life of Peter Hujar and Paul Thek’, a beefy double-biography by ANDREW DURBIN. ■ And out soon (I have a galley) is ‘Torn: Fashion and Postmodernism’ by fashion critic and writer EUGENE RABKIN of this fashion podcast fame. The title is promising, as is the blurb that RICK OWENS kindly provided: “DEPRESSING AND EXHILARATING, ONE OF MY FAVORITE COMBOS.” ■ The author will be on a book tour in September and October – NYC, London, Milan, Paris, Antwerp…

We’ve been quite food-obsessed as of late, as you’ll notice in our upcoming print issue, and correspondent GIJS VEENING kindly shares this Amsterdam recommendation. ■ “Locals know that it can be challenging to find a good terrace when the sun is out. The municipality is strict on the number of seats allowed outside, and tourism is in full swing all summer. MASSALIA, in the east of the city, opened two years ago, and its outside seating is excellent, which suits their wine list and Greek-meets-French menu. It feels like you’re on holiday at home. The Kalamata olives with honey and the sourdough bread with whipped feta cream are a must.” ■ Thanks for the tip.
