Have Your Say on Hutt City Council RepresentationLower Hutt residents are being urged to have their say on how people and communities are represented on Hutt City Council. Paul Swain, Chair of the Independent Panel carrying out the review of current representation arrangements, says community input into Council representation is critical. "We want to make sure that Council representation is fair and effective for Lower Hutt residents and communities, so we are reviewing the arrangements that are currently in place to see if they should continue or if they need to be changed for the future." The panel is looking at things such as how many councillors there should be, whether those councillors should be elected from local wards, from across the whole city, or a combination of both (as at present), and whether there should be community boards. In addition to a survey that is being released today, the panel is also meeting with a wide range of community groups and organisations over the coming months to hear first-hand how well they think they are currently represented on Council. "We will carefully consider all the feedback we receive, along with other information about the city’s communities, before making recommendations to the Council next year about the representation arrangements that should be in place for the 2025 Council elections. "Your input will help us with our recommendations to Council, so head to the website hutt.city/repreview to have your say now," said Paul Swain. ![]() ![]() Update on Hutt City Cycling and Walking Pathways | Hutt City Council The Hutt City Council has provided an update on the project to improve walking and cycling paths from Waterloo Station to the city center. The original plan for Knights Road has been changed due to safety concerns, with Birch Street and Waterloo Road now being the chosen paths. This decision was influenced by community feedback that emphasized the importance of safety, as well as the need to maintain parking and accommodate both cars and cyclists. Due to other ongoing projects, including the Riverlink project, this initiative has been postponed and will be revisited for funding in the 2024-2034 Long Term Plan. Meanwhile, Knights Road will stay as it is, which will still improve safety for cyclists. The Council remains focused on creating a safer, well-connected transport network. ![]() ![]() Centreport Well Positioned For The Future | Centreport Wellington New Zealand’s busiest port by ship movements has reported a strong result for the year ended 30 June 2023 with an underlying net profit after tax of $11.9m, a 48% increase on the prior year’s result of $8m.
