Newcomer Taster Drop-in Class (8:15-9:15 pm)

All levels are welcome; no dance experience is needed!
We will explore the essential history and movement for vintage swing dances. Jump-start into partnered dancing and enjoy entry to the social dance afterward to practice your new skills and meet new friends.

Hawai'ian themed DJ Dance Party (9:30-11:30 pm)

Get ready for a swingin' luau like no other, where Hawai'ian vibes collide with the infectious rhythms of swing. Don your brightest Hawai'ian shirts and floral prints, and let's dance until the palm trees envy our moves. Make sure to stretch beforehand to limber up for our limbo contest!

No partner or experience is required, just show up with comfortable shoes. We would love to dance with you!

August Class Series

Check out our class descriptions below. You can register for drop-in classes if you haven't registered for the whole month.

Journey Series (7:05-8:05 pm)

Me & You: Stretch and Compression
The connection between a lead and a follow is imperative for a good, comfortable, and fun dance. In this class, we'll dive into what makes that connection work as we learn how to follow momentum and sink into the connection.

w/ Sam Nguyen & Sol Zitter

Advanced: Small Groups Series (7:05-8:05 pm)

Level Up with Solo Jazz
Solo jazz doesn't have to be scary. It can be a great way to level up your dance skills. Learn about variations, musicality, and jam circles. We will be covering a different topic every week and show you ways to practice with friends or by yourself.

w/ Patricia Chan

Beginners Series (8:15-9:15 pm)

Beginning Lindy Hop
Come learn Lindy Hop! This origin story of all swing dances is fun, creative, and addicting. Progressive material over the course of the month will get you up and dancing at our weekly parties in no time.

PRE-REQUISITES: None. Two-left-feet friendly, no partner required; just bring comfy shoes and your enthusiasm!

w/ Sam Nguyen & James Yeh

Performance Series (8:15-9:15 pm)

The Big Apple
The Big Apple was a national phenomenon that blended the circle formations of African-influence with the trendy jazz figures and rhythms of the time. Popular moves were called in a manner similar to square-dancing and each dance was new and the figures particular to the region. However, most lindy hoppers today will only recognize Whitey's Lindy Hoppers who displayed this dance as a choreographed routine in the film, Keep Punching (1939). This routine is long and complex, requiring a wide breadth of jazz vocabulary and rhythm, but most importantly, it's incredibly energetic and fun! Come challenge yourself to learn this famous choreo in only five weeks!

w/ Karen Huddleston
