Cannabis use can trigger psychosisResearch shows that there is a relationship between heavy or repeated cannabis use over an extended period, and experiencing psychosis for the first time. Psychotic disorders are severe mental health conditions characterized by a "loss of contact with reality". Symptoms can include visual hallucinations, hearing voices, or pervasive delusional thinking. Youth who use cannabis are at highest risk of developing a mental health condition.
