Click here JPC Key Message Week 8, Term 1 2020In and Around JPCUniversity Graduation Ceremony @ JPCWith the prohibition of gatherings, several of our new teachers had their University graduation ceremonies cancelled this week. To honour their hard work and dedication, and with our usual JPC team spirit, JPC decided to hold our own Graduation Ceremony this morning. From the making of mortarboards in Art, to printing of certificates in Admin, to provision of ‘gowns’ from Textiles, and inspiring (and hilarious) music from IT, JPC staff pulled together a wonderful surprise ceremony for our graduating teachers. Staff convened in the theatre (keeping careful physical distancing, of course!) and clapped and cheered as graduation protocol was observed, including formal processions and academic staff on the ‘stage’ – although handshakes were replaced with elbow bumps. It was the quickest, most spontaneous, and fun graduation ceremony in history – and gave us all something positive to focus on today! Sally Mordike Welcome to the new IT TeacherWe would like to introduce you to Rosie Moss, who is our new IT teacher. Rosie has a double degree in IT, three beautiful children and is a fashion designer and creator. Rosie will be joining the Maathai team and is very excited to be working at JPC. Students who are doing IT will meet Mrs Moss via Zoom meetings soon. New LifeThis week JPC staff have been witnessing the birth of chicks and ducklings. By the end of Tuesday, four little yellow fluffballs had burst from their shells and have been getting stronger each day, helped along by our lab technicians Mardi and Michaela, and lots of cuddles from JPC staff members. The hatching eggs are part of a biology unit that is being developed for one of our Year 9 students, to align with the foundation and year 1 science curriculum. While staff at JPC are able to interact with the chick directly, this student remains at home and must engage through the images, videos and activities posted on Moodle by his teacher. By Thursday morning the first of the ducklings were beginning to make their way to the outside world. It has been such a joy for JPC staff members to visit the chicks and get a little “cuteness fix” through these uncertain and stressful times. Many thanks to Mardi and Michaela for opening their lab doors to all the visitors. Online Learning In ActionChief Minister’s Reading ChallengeThe Chief Minister's Reading Challenge is on this year - and what a great opportunity to pass some time, escape to another world, or deepen your knowledge of anything you want! Outdoor Ed CampEven though the outdoor Ed camp has been cancelled, it didn't stopped our students from learning all the ins and outs of preparing for camp last week. Mr Thomas Arts Up FrontDear Cast and Families of Cinderella, Sadly, we will need to postpone our rehearsals until further notice. With the uncertainty of the current health issues and schools moving to online learning, we will need to hit the pause button. Despite this, the show will go on – SOMEHOW! When we are able to commence our rehearsals again, we will look to moving the performance dates if we need. You need to know that our rehearsals and your efforts so far have been outstanding! It is extremely exciting to be able to work with people who are so motivated and enthused to take risks, have fun and commit to such a journey. Thank you. Please contact any of the involved teachers if you would like and, keep practicing – the show will go on. Chookas Mrs Smith Director of Cinderella: A Pantomime CareersWork ExperienceA couple of weeks ago I completed some work experience at Next Gen which is a gym in Lyneham. I completed work experience with the hope that I could complete an ASBA with them, but I walked out with something even better. It made me realise that personal training was exactly what I wanted to do with my life. I learnt so much about Person training and fitness in the short 4 days that I was with them. I had such a great time and would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Parish NewsCommunity NewsDo you have any second-hand jackets you can donate to the Vinnies Night Patrol? The van stock is incredibly low at the moment and they have had to turn many people away who have come recently to the van looking for a jacket/jumper to keep themselves warm. If you have a jacket or jumper that you can donate, please give them to Mrs Teena Zorzi in the Drexel area - Thank You |
