Our Next Meeting
Barnet VCS Environmental Network
Thursday 21 October,
10.30 - 12noon
If you've already been to a Barnet VCS Environmental Network meeting then you'll automatically receive an invite and zoom link for our 8th on 21 October. If you've not joined us yet, then do email Ellen. These are informal and informative networking sessions for those working in the Barnet VCS, where we can come together to discuss environmental issues in the Borough, and work out how we as a sector can make a difference. This networking group will raise awareness of environmental projects that are happening in the Borough, help to establish partnerships and joint initiatives and seek funding opportunities. In October we'll be joined by a team member from Barnet Council's Street Scene to discuss recycling and fly-tipping, we can also pick up on any questions linked to the Barnet Community Innovation Fund, which closes on 1 November. If you have any topics you would like to raise/discuss, do let Ellen
know. FOR PAST E-NEWSLETTERS

Funding
The Aviva Climate Fund
Deadline: Tuesday 5 October
The Aviva Community Fund supports small UK causes making a big difference in their communities. Partnering with Crowdfunder to build capabilities of these causes, drive sustainable fundraising and leverage our talented and enthusiastic workforce to get their best ideas off the ground.
Every quarter, they distribute £250,000 funding, supported further by donations from the public. They're currently looking to support projects that are fighting climate change and building stronger, more resilient communities across the UK via The Aviva Climate Fund by adding extra £150,000 to the pot for projects leading the way on climate action.
They're hoping to build a brighter, more sustainable future by matching each donation made up to £50*.
For your project to be eligible it will need to do at least one of the following:
1. Help prevent or reduce the impacts of climate change
2. Help prepare people and places for climate change impact, through education and recovery planning
*match funding rules apply - see The Aviva Climate Fund website for more details.
Deadline: Wednesday 15 December
Every three months, The Matthew Good Foundation share £10,000 between five shortlisted projects that have made a positive impact on communities, people or the environment. To stay true to our ethos of donating funds to causes close to the hearts of their members, every three months, five shortlisted projects will be voted for by John Good Group employees. These five charities will all receive a share of £10,000 – the more votes a cause receives, the bigger the donation. Following the vote, the project that receives the most votes will receive a grant of £3,500, second place £2,500, third place £2,000 and fourth and fifth place will both receive £1,000. Your application must be on behalf of a local community group, charity, voluntary group or social enterprise that has a positive impact on communities, people or the environment and has an average income of less than £50,000 in the last 12 months. Case Studies
Collecting ideas for climate action
ACEVO's climate emergency committee is gathering a series of case studies highlighting positive climate leadership shown in charities, both environmental and non-environmental. They hope this will provide a range of ideas about how organisations can approach different types of climate action and play their part in a just transition to net-zero. If you'd like to share what you have been doing at your organisation - no action is too small - do submit your story.
