Port of Newcastle Mayfield Concept Plan BackgroundThe Mayfield Development Site is a 90-hectare parcel of port-side land, located within the Port of Newcastle. The site was once part of the former BHP Steelworks and has since been extensively remediated. It represents an important economic opportunity for the Port and the Hunter region. Compliance reportingAs the proponent of the Mayfield Concept Plan Approval, Port of Newcastle publishes monitoring data regarding environmental performance in accordance with the Concept Plan Approval. The 2018 Annual Noise Verification Review for the Mayfield Site is now available to view on Port of Newcastle's website. The Report found that compliance against the noise quotas issued for the two projects operating on the Mayfield Site Stolthaven’s Distribution Terminal and the Mayfield Cargo Storage Facility was achieved at all receiver locations, during all assessment periods under all prevailing meteorological conditions. Koppers Carbon Materials and Chemicals Pty Ltd (Koppers) are preparing to decommission its existing gantry and pipe infrastructure at the BHP 6 Berth. Stolthaven Mayfield Terminal The Conditions of Approval in the consent reflect existing reporting arrangements and environmental monitoring requirements in compliance with the Mayfield Concept Plan Approval. Stolthaven is continuing to finalise the design and preparation for the Stage 3 tendering process. Click here for information on the Project Approval Port of Newcastle Mayfield Services Project Stage 1 of the Mayfield Services Project has been completed, including connections to the Ausgrid and Hunter Water networks for the future supply of electrical and water services to the site. Port of Newcastle has appointed Downer Engineering to commence works on the Mayfield Services Project Stage 2 – Electrical. Works will involve installing high voltage electrical cabling using a mix of new and existing conduits from the Mayfield West Ausgrid zone substation near Tourle St to a new Port of Newcastle owned electrical switching station at the Mayfield site. Works are expected to take 12 months. The Stage 2 Electrical project is a $10 million investment by Port of Newcastle to enable future full development of the site. Mayfield Cargo Storage Facility Port of Newcastle has been operating the Mayfield Cargo Storage facility since July 2017. It comprises of 12 hectares of open air storage for a range of cargo, including project cargo, general cargo, breakbulk, and associated containerised cargoes.
