SOCIAL DANCING AT WNH

Newcomer Taster Class (8:15-9:15 pm)

All levels are welcome; no dance experience is necessary!
Jump-start into partnered dancing and enjoy entry to the social dance afterward to practice your new skills and meet new friends.

Plant Swap (9:30-11:30 pm)

Like a clothing swap, except you bring your plant babies. Adult plants are okay, too!
During the dance party, we will have a place to share plants. Our recommendations include: indoor plants, small outdoor plants, plant cuttings, herbs, flowers, and succulents. Even bring your struggling plants! Our collective knowledge may be able to help you revitalize them! You can also bring related things you'd like to part with, such as small gardening tools, plant pots and containers, and watering cans.
We do not recommend bringing dirt and soil to prevent any messes.

April Progressive Series (4 weeks)

Check out the descriptions below for this month's class series. You can register for drop-in classes on first and second classes of the series if you cannot attend the whole month.

Put it on your calendar!

• May 1: Dance Party to Live Music w/ Don Neely Swingtet

• Friday, April 26: Screening of “Everything Remains Raw” Documentary (6-11 pm @ the 418 Project in Santa Cruz)

A Historical Perspective on Hip Hop Dance
@155 River Street South Santa Cruz, CA 95060

Book tickets and read more about the event here.

Moncell Durden is a dance educator, choreographer, ethnographer, embodied historian, author, and associate professor of practice at the University of Southern California’s Glorya Kaufman International School of Dance. He created this documentary which traces the roots of Hip Hop Dance through the ages including footage of and interviews with some of the pioneers, including legendary Savoy Ballroom dancers of Harlem and many others. The roots are truly deep and this journey is so important for us to all take part in. Moncell has graciously agreed to attend the Swingout Santa Cruz screening and take part in a discussion. Afterwards, there will be a mix of Swing, Soul, Disco, R&B, & Hip Hop music for everyone to dance.

Join Swingout Santa Cruz in making this an educational and fun evening to grow from and immerse yourself in the history of these dances that we love so much. All proceeds after cost will go directly to Moncell to continue the work he does through his organization Intangible Roots.

Community Fund Donation

This is a way for dancers who have a little extra money to help those who cannot afford to take classes or come to dances. Anybody can donate, and anyone can ask to be subsidized. Find out details and donate on our website.

Keep it Swingin'!
See you out on the dance floor!
