More than a Pretty Picture: How 3D Visualization is Transforming the Design Process

One of the criticisms of design for the built environment is that it can sometimes become more about the designer than the client or the end user. At RVi our approach has always been focused on what’s best for the client, the user, and the community as a whole – and we seek to understand those perspectives through collaboration and communication.

But regardless of how collaborative and communicative we are, at the end of the day, the design process comes down to designers going back to their offices and seemingly working magic to translate what they heard into something that can be built. This is where the process becomes inherently less transparent and has the most opportunity for misalignment. At RVi we are developing new tools to make the design process more inclusive, collaborative, and transparent – thanks in part to 3D visualization.

Brushy Creek Regional Trail Phase V Breaks Ground

BY DREW CARMAN

After beginning as a Feasibility Study in 2015, design is now complete and the Williamson County Brushy Creek Regional Trail Phase V project celebrated its groundbreaking earlier this month.

Planning for the ambitious Brushy Creek Regional Trail began in 2000, seeking to connect over 30 miles from Cedar Park to Hutto, Texas. The project has been constructed in phases through multiple jurisdictions over the years. The trail is currently 7-miles long and parallels Brushy Creek from Twin Lakes Park on US 183 in Cedar Park, Texas to its easternmost terminus along Hairy Man Road in Round Rock, Texas. The 1-mile Phase V segment is a critical and complex component of the trail because it connects right through the heart of Round Rock. RVi assisted with right-of-way acquisition from almost a dozen landowners along the trail corridor, facilitated public involvement, and developed the final design for the trail. The design is responsive to multiple challenging environmental conditions, including an elevated modular boardwalk over an existing wastewater line and sensitive habitat, as well as a 100 ft. steel pedestrian bridge to span the creek.

RVi Tempe Hosts Party in the Parking Lot

BY KATIE EVANS

Springtime in the desert brings longer days and picture-perfect temperatures - and a great opportunity to Open the Outdoors! RVi Tempe recently hosted an Open House Party in the Parking Lot, bringing together clients and allied firms for the first time since our acquisition of LVA Urban Design Studio in 2018.

The event kicked off with music, bottomless drinks, and mouthwatering food catered by Eur Haus Food Truck, with mingling and friendly games of cornhole played on the blacktop surface. As evening set in, we lit up the fire pits and enjoyed s'mores under the stars.
