BUSHFIRES IN NSW
Around 52 fires continue to burn across NSW.  NSW fire services worked around the clock to have as many of the fires as possible under control before the winds picked up across NSW today (Wednesday). At the time of writing there had not been any new alerts or evacuations in Lutheran areas. Pastor Robert Hamann from Our Saviour Springwood has reported that the worst of the fire damage has been in the north of the township. The church and manse are safe on the south side of the township. While many of the Springwood members had been evacuated most have now returned to their homes. While there has been some property and equipment damage thankfully none of our Lutheran members have lost their homes.

The following prayer was sent out by the NSW Ecumenical Council on Monday.  The words were written after the Victorian bushfires in 2009.

   Loving and Compassionate God,
   for those who have lost loved ones, grant your peace;
   for those who have lost homes, property, livelihood and livestock, grant your resilience;
   for those who seek shelter and food, grant your comfort;
   for those whose lives have been shattered, grant your strength;
   for those who have lost everything, grant that they may find their hope in the gifts of others.

   God of wisdom and strength, guide the hands of those who provide emergency relief.
   We entrust to you those who fight against the power of the flames,
   those who care for the bereaved, those with the gift of healing,
   those who carry the burdens of moving debris, and those who distribute emergency supplies
   Give them the endurance that is needed to continue their good works.

   God of all consolation, in the midst of things we shudder to think about, in a tragedy of     historic proportions, and a grieving too heavy to bear, grant us your peace, we pray.
   This is a time when we welcome your Word of hope born into our world.
   May that hope settle in all our hearts.
   We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Comforter and Consoler.
