Social Notes from Commodore Winston...

We had a large group for a really nice steak fry at last Friday night’s DID and after dinner, Rear Commodore Rick Gilmore gave a fun and informative presentation on Sequoia’s annual Delta Trip.  If you weren’t thinking of going before, you are certainly ready to sign up now!

To keep to the schedule of the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays for the Wednesday Lunch Bunch, June 4th  will be our next lunch.  Be sure to stop by at 12 noon to enjoy lunch with your friends.

The next big event for the Club will be the Past Commodores’ Dinner on June 7th.  And this evening is not just for past commodores;  it  is an opportunity to enjoy a more formal sit-down dinner, celebrate the rich history of our club – especially in this 75th year - and hear some outrageously tall tales from “the early days of sailing” from some folks who were there…

Chef Higgs will be serving a classic Caesar Salad, steak or salmon entree, Roasted Garlic Whipped Potatoes, Grilled Asparagus, and New Season Peach Cobbler with Ice Cream.  Cost is $25.00.  There is a sign-up sheet at the club, as well as on-line. I could also use help with some servers and bartenders. And, Kathy Harris could use your help with the décor.  If you can help, please let us know. Contact Kathy by clicking HERE or contact me by clicking HERE.

Also a reminder that the June General Meeting and DID will be on June 13th. More on that next week.

Just a lot going on, as the Club continues to fire on all cylinders

Sausalito Cruise-Out Recap

Sequoia Yacht Club returned en force to Sausalito for the Memorial Weekend cruise out after a year off due to the America’s Cup Races last year. 20 boats signed up—more total length than ever before and more than Schoonmaker could handle—so we were split between there and Clipper marina. Although just over a half mile apart, each marina had it’s advantages… While Schmoonmaker has Le Garage restaurant, Clipper has Fish, a relatively new and excellent sustainable fish spot; while Schoonmaker has a beach, Clipper has Westmarine! Something for everyone!

The weather was beautiful for the entire weekend, which contributed to making Saturday evening’s beach BBQ one of the best cruise out dinners ever! Also contributing were the sausages from Lockeford Meats and tri-tips cooked by Mike Hmelar and Ted Eberle, all the great side dishes, the entire group singing “Sweet Caroline” led by Rick Gilmore and best of all the awesome camaraderie of SYC members and their friends.

Sunday was a spa and lunch day for many, while others ventured to the Bay Model or Caledonia Street Festival, before gathering at Sausalito Yacht Club for drinks and dinner. More than 50 of us enjoyed a meal of Chicken Pot Pie and Shepard’s Pie, and the hospitality of the other SYC. After dinner a group of us were led to the Sausalito Cruising Club by Tom Keegen, where we were enticed to dance by a surprisingly good local band!

Monday brought sun and wind for a warm and fun sail back to Redwood City.

Join the Fun at the Westpoint Regatta

Just in case you didn't see the email from Rear Commodore Rick, we're just a few weeks away from the inaugural YRA Westpoint Regatta and Island Time Party! The race and party will be held on Saturday, July 5. For the first time, Sequoia Yacht Club's Westpoint Regatta is on the YRA's party circuit. This gives us the opportunity to show off our Club to the whole bay racing community by putting on a great event.

Your Westpoint Regatta committee has been planning for months now to make this regatta and Island Time Party fun and memorable to all our fellow yachtsmen.

So this is your opportunity to join in the fun! Sequoia Yacht Club has always banded together and pitched in when there is fun to be had and events to make happen. But it doesn't happen if you don't tell us what you want to do..

Please contact one of the organizational leaders listed in Rick's email or CLICK HERE to email Nick Weber and we'll help you find the role you'll enjoy the most.

Unfortunately, the block of 10 slips are already reserved, but we will try to squeeze in more on June 29th when South Beach opens up more slips.
