Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for Packaging: Local Authority Payments

Today, Thursday 28 November 2024, Local Authority Chief Executives in England, Scotland and Wales will receive an indicative estimate of their year 1 Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging payment (the Provisional Notice of Assessment).  Local Authority Chief Executives in Northern Ireland will receive their Provisional Notices of Assessment in due course.

Together with the Provisional Notice of Assessment and related guidance, authorities will receive information regarding the approach the Scheme Administrator (once it is formally established) will adopt for effectiveness metrics in order to assess performance and the approach to evaluation.  For further details on the information to be shared in the Provisional Notice of Assessment, please see this page.

Please note the Provisional Notice of Assessment will provide indicative estimates only which are subject to further review and adjustment.  We will inform you of any revisions in early 2025 and the first payment will be made to authorities by November 2025.

Authorities will be able to provide feedback on the Provisional Notice of Assessment, the methodology used for the indicative estimates and the accompanying guidance using a feedback form that will be accessible through a link provided in the email.

For further information on EPR for packaging, please see this page.

We are organising a webinar which will take place in December, with the date to be announced and invitations circulated in due course. This event will provide a platform for Local Authorities to join us in discussing the year 1 (2025/26) EPR for packaging payment estimates. We encourage Local Authorities to participate if they have questions regarding their payment estimates.
