STATE NEWS

EWA AWARDS - ONE WEEK LEFT TO NOMINATE!

Nominations for the 2016 Equestrian Western Australia Awards are now open!

The Awards recognise the top performing athletes and horses, as well as the sport's most outstanding administrator, coach, official, owner, volunteer and event of the past 12 months. All members of EWA, EA or an EWA-affiliated club are able to nominate.

Award winners will be recognised at the Annual Awards Night which is to be held on Friday 3 February 2017. The venue will be announced shortly and the tickets available for purchase in December. Nominations close 4 December. MORE

EWA & SEC CLOSURES

Please note that the EWA office will be closed to public access from 9-15 December due to office renovations. Staff will still be available to answer your calls and the SEC riding facilities will remain available for hire during this time.

The EWA office and all of the SEC facilities will be closed from 16 December - 3 January for the Christmas/New Year break.

We thank you for your cooperation and patience during this time.

FEI GENERAL ASSEMBLY VOTES IN FAVOUR OF OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC RULE CHANGES

The FEI General Assembly has voted overwhelmingly in favour of the proposed format changes for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2020, which will now go to the IOC Executive Board for final approval in 2017. MORE

RIO ATHLETES RECEIVE OVER 1MILL IN AOC FUNDING

Australian athletes who won medals at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games will receive over one million dollars in funding from the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC). A total of 71 athletes are eligible for 2017 Medal Incentive Funding (MIF) of $1,080,000 to be paid by the AOC from January. MORE

We would like to recommend that all EWA clubs check the Department of Sport and Recreation website for upcoming workshops that could be of interest to your committee, riders and volunteers. DSR holds regular workshops on club management, coaching, officiating, safety and many other topics. MORE


COACHES & OFFICIALS NEWS

REMINDER TO  COACHES

A reminder to all EA registered coaches that it is compulsory to have both a working with children check and a current first aid certificate. EA will not allow coach registration or insurance without these requirements.

2017 STATE DRESSAGE CHAMPIONSHIPS WORKING PARTY

Dressage WA invites expressions of interest to join a working party to help run the State Dressage Championships in May next year. Most of the work is done via email with some meetings. If you have any specific skills and/ or a willingness to help make the next Championships a great event please email either botfam@iinet.net.au or ptspackman@bigpond.com before 30 November.

EVENTING NEWS

VALLEY EQUINE VETERINARY CENTRE

The WA Eventing Committee would like to thank Warwick Vale and the team at Valley Equine Veterinary Centre for their continued support of our state's eventing community.

Valley Equine Veterinary Centre provides $2500 each year to Eventing WA, plus veterinary attendance at one WA FEI CIC/CCI event in an FEI Veterinary Delegate Capacity, and two annual veterinary lectures to WA Eventing Squad Members.

They also sponsor the FEI Young Eventing Rider of the Year Award, which aims to foster the young eventing rider into FEI competitions. The award includes a prize for the most outstanding and successful horse/rider combination of the year and allows for some financial assistance for further training and education for that combination during the following year.

EVENTING WA ANNUAL AWARDS

Is there someone that you have noticed during 2016 that has contributed in a significant way to the sport of Eventing? So much so that you think they should be formally recognised? If so then please take two minutes to nominate them for one of the Eventing WA Annual Awards. These awards are additional to the EWA Awards.

The survey is now open here. Nominations close November 30 and Eventing WA have absolute discretion to make final selection.

The Master Series results have now been finalised and are available for download here. Winners and placegetters will be recognised at the EWA Awards Night on 3 February 2017.

BETTINA HOY MASTERCLASS CANCELLED

Swan River Horse Trials are disappointed to announce that the Masterclass with Bettina Hoy planned for December has been cancelled due to being unable to secure a venue.

INTERSCHOOL - NEWS

2017 RISING STARS SQUAD APPLICATIONS OPEN

The Rising Stars Program aims to work closely with the best young equestrian talent in the state to provide a pathway for young riders aspiring to reach the ranks of an EWA High Performance Program and perhaps also National Selection sometime in the future.

Applications are now being accepted from young athletes for the 2017 Squad. MORE

2017 STATE INTERSCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFICATIONS

As part of our duty of care and risk management responsibilities, Interschool WA now requires riders to gain qualifications prior to entering the WA State Interschool Championships.

The 2017 qualification period is 18 March 2016 - 3 March 2017.

Qualifications must now be recorded on the Interschool Qualification Card template and submitted to the EWA office by 10 March 2017. MORE

UPDATE IN SHOW HORSE RULES

The following Show Horse Rule clarification has been ratified by the EA board and will take effect immediately:

The National Showhorse rules will include the definition of a child as being 5 years old and under 18 years as of the 1st January, and that child classes be included in the list of events for the Australasian Show Horse and Rider Championships in the National Showhorse rules. MORE
