Kia Ora ,

One of the benefits of membership of the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce is the Hutt Chamber App. This mobile-enabled App provides members with the opportunity to get great deals and SAVE money.

•    Buy Local – deals from local businesses (and some national ones too)
•    Sell local – if you have something to sell, a product or service, you can add this to the App.

The App is a great way to save money, or through the notifications make other businesses aware of your products or services.

One member recently told me that they had saved their entire membership fee by booking a hire car for 4 days using the App. The saving was over $300 on this one transaction.

At the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce, our team use the App regularly. Recently we had to buy a new Toastie machine for our office. Using the Hutt Chamber App saved us a whopping 47% on the purchase price.

If you are a member, and would like to get access to the App just:

1. Use the QR code below.

2. Enter your details.

3. We will send you the download instructions and your unique code.

Te Awa Kairangi - Delivering RiverLink: Site Investigations Update

Te Awa Kairangi's RiverLink project is making strides in community-focused site assessments. Teams are diligently studying ground conditions, ensuring the safety of air quality, and evaluating noise levels. There's an anticipation for their upcoming ecological efforts, where the focus will turn to the habitats of cherished species like the whitebait (īnanga), various nesting birds, and the intriguing lizards (mokomoko). As we share this initiative, we're reminded of the richness of our shared environment and the importance of such endeavors in understanding and preserving it. Stay tuned for more insights from this pivotal initiative.

Regional News

Less Waste. Greater Place. Have your say on the regional Waste Management and Minimisation Plan

The Wellington Region Waste Management and Minimisation Plan (WMMP) is currently being updated, and we want to hear what you think about the future of waste in the Hutt Valley and Wellington region. All 8 councils in the Wellington region have joined forces to tackle the daunting issue of waste, which is filling our landfills, and causing environmental harm.

Both councils have actions that are designed to help the region shift away from just managing waste and instead carry out activities which are focused on reducing, reusing, and recycling.
For many of these actions, collaboration with businesses and industry will be a big part of driving change.

Click the button to read the regional plan and the Local Acton Plans for each council and to have your say by 1 September 2023.

Hutt City Council's Draft Indigenous Biodiversity Strategy for your feedback

We are delighted to be able to share Hutt City Council’s Rautaki Kanorau Koiora Taketake / Draft Indigenous Biodiversity Strategy for your feedback.

We encourage you to let them know whether this draft strategy meets your aspirations for protecting and restoring indigenous biodiversity in our city.

The strategy and link to give feedback is at hutt.city/biodiversity until 20 August and we are keen to hear from as many groups and individuals as possible.

The finalised Indigenous Biodiversity Strategy provides guidance for Hutt City Council, Mana Whenua, community groups and the wider community to protect and restore our indigenous biodiversity. The strategy sets a shared vision and goals to guide us and identifies focus areas where we can work together to make a difference.

Remutaka Hill Maintenance Closures

Plan ahead for an OVERNIGHT CLOSURE on Sunday 13 August, 9pm-4am for essential maintenance and slip prevention works.

Access will be available for emergency services responding to events throughout the closure. Travelers with special circumstances should contact customer@wta.nzta.govt.nz by 4pm, Friday 11 August.

Due to the amount of work taking place, crossings over Remutaka Hill will not be available unless a traveler has special circumstances and has made a booking. Numbers are strictly limited and travelers turning up without bookings will be turned away.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we carry out these crucial works. This is a high-use mountain road that requires ongoing maintenance to keep it safe.

Space now available in the Hutt Valley’s exciting new business campus!

Blue Mountains Campus is a new, resilient business campus at 68 Ward Street, Upper Hutt. It offers turnkey and bespoke options for a range of uses including office, project spaces, R&D, light industrial/manufacturing, and spaces suitable for smaller amenity providers such as health and wellbeing practitioners.

Stage 1 is now nearing completion and is home to KiwiRail and MBIE. It incorporates exceptional new office space, as well as KiwiRail’s impressive new National Train Control Centre and a new café, which is due to open in October.

Central to the campus’s unique offering is its focus on safety and its expansive park-like environment. The Ward Street site boasts a naturally resilient risk profile with no risk of flooding, tsunami or slope failure, and low shaking and liquefaction risks. This, partnered with the campus’ large lawns, mature totoras and elms, and outlook across the valley creates a unique working environment that is difficult to replicate.

Up to 1,700sqm of modern, 5 Green Star design-accredited office space with expansive views is available to lease now – either altogether or as smaller spaces. Leasing packages can be customised to meet your needs and Upper Hutt City Council is offering a rates remission deal for tenants for 10 years (starting in 2023).

Nurturing Future Talents: How Go Architecture Elevates Education to Real-World Experience

Have you ever found yourself wondering about the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce's decision to venture into the Education to Employment domain? Let us shed some light on it through a heartwarming story.

Enter Lily, a dedicated student from St Orans College. This year, she's been weaving her academic journey with real-world work experience at Go Architecture. But it's not just about sitting at a desk for Lily. Paula Clarke and her team have ensured that she's fully immersed in the architectural world. From meeting external suppliers to understanding the intricacies of various projects, Lily has been at the forefront, soaking in knowledge.

Paula Clarke, the driving force behind Go Architecture, remarked, “Lily's presence has been a breath of fresh air. She has prompted us to reflect and reevaluate our practices, seeing them through a new lens. Watching her connect her college learnings with practical insights has been immensely rewarding. And it's not just about work; she's become a part of our family here. Our staff eagerly share their work, experiences, and insights with her, enriching her learning journey."

We believe in creating pathways from education to employment, and stories like Lily's reinforce the value of such endeavours.

If you would like to host a student for work experience, please get in contact with our Education to Employment Coordinator, Amanda Walters.

Bridging Classrooms and Careers: Inside the Sebel Hotel Experience

One of the most effective ways to enlighten students about potential careers is by immersing them directly in the workplace. A heartfelt shoutout to the Sebel Hotel staff for graciously hosting St Bernard students and providing them with an insightful industry tour. With a year of studying Tourism and Hospitality under their belts, these students were eager to unravel the intricacies of the hotel industry, particularly Hotel Management.

Guided by Pradeep Kapai, the Sales Manager for the Sebel, the students were given a comprehensive tour. From the plush rooms and suites to guest amenities and from the welcoming café to the elegant restaurant – they saw it all. But it wasn't just a visual tour. Pradeep delved deeper, introducing them to the diverse roles that form the backbone of the hotel – Revenue, Sales, Administration, and Food & Beverage. He enlightened them on potential entry points into the industry and how the Sebel paves the way for budding enthusiasts.

Through Pradeep's guidance, our young minds discovered tangible opportunities lying right within their community.

Inspired to be a part of this enriching journey? If you’re a business open to hosting college student groups, we'd love to collaborate. Connect with our Education to Employment Coordinator, Amanda Walters.
