LSC Meeting Monday, October 21st, 6:30 pm

Barnard's Local School Council meets this Monday, October 21st at 6:30 pm in the Library. All are invited to attend. The LSC plays a role in decision-making at the local school level. The primary responsibilities of LSC includes approving how school funds and resources are allocated, approving and monitoring the implementation of the annual school improvement plan, and hiring and evaluating the school's contract principal. We currently have one parent opening on our LSC. Please come and see what local school leadership is all about!

Local School Council Meeting

Monday, October 21st, 6:30 pm - Library

Perfect Attendance! Help Your Child Succeed!

High attendance rates are directly related to student success in school. We value attendance and encourage every child  to get to school every day, on time. We are continuing with our individual student attendance prizes as we had last year. Also, a part of our attendance incentive includes a homeroom competition so that the highest homeroom attendance rate for the month earns a party and games/activities with the principal.  Right now, several classrooms are competing for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize for the month of October. Help your child's classroom win a celebration!

SCHOOL HOURS: 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

Please make sure your child arrives to school on time.  Classroom routines begin at the 8:00 bell. It is extremely disruptive for children to enter the classroom late, and this is often the reflected in learning and behavior issues, since students are missing a critical part of academic and social emotional curriculum.  Children also struggle with having a period of adjustment and disorientation because the rest of the class is already in full swing with their routines, thus losing more instruction. We ask that the responsible adults in each family accept the responsibility of assuring that your child arrives to school between 7:45 and 8:00 am and is ready, with their class, to learn and grow. Thank you!

SES Program Applications Due

Please turn in your SES tutoring program application by Thursday, October 24th. After applications are received, SES will select student rosters based on provider choices and student qualifications such as free lunch status and academic need.

PTO Taffy Apple Fundraiser

Taffy Apple orders will be taken through Wednesday, October 23rd. The PTO fundraiser will help Barnard fund PBIS student incentives, attendance prizes and other activities and materials. Make sure you place your order soon!

Hispanic Heritage Month Assembly Oct. 24th

Ms. Arthur is busy rehearsing with her classes and Latin Dance club preparing for our Hispanic Heritage Month Assembly to be held on Thursday, October 24th at 1:30 pm. The assembly will include grades K-4 singing Spanish selections including "De Colores" and "La Bamba" and 5th grade will present a Caesar Chavez play.  There will be poetry presentations and the show will end with the Bachata Dance performed by the Latin Dance Club.

Guidelines for Students on Halloween

In order to allow for instruction to continue during this exciting season for our children, our teachers and administration have outlined our guidelines for October 31st. We know that many students will have plans during the evening, so our school acknowledgement of the occasion will be minimally disruptive to the instructional day. Please note the following guidelines to help your child prepare for school and learning on October 31st:

  • Costumes will be allowed only in grades Pre K-2. Any accessories for costumes will need to be kept outside of the classroom. Toy weapons will not be allowed.
  • Students 3-8 will not be allowed to wear costumes - this includes masks or other costume pieces.
  • The primary grade costume parade will take place inside the school from 8:30 to 8:45. All classrooms are encouraged to line up to see our little goblins!
  • Teachers will be mindful of the religious beliefs of our students and make sure they are honored in their plans. Parents may express their concerns and questions to their child's teacher.
  • Some classrooms are planning an activity that will last no longer than 1/2 hour. Each teacher will send a notice home regarding their chosen activities.
  • If you would like to send something to school with your child, please remember only healthy treats, no candy or cupcakes. Some classrooms are not holding celebrations. Please check first before planning to send items to your child's classroom.
