LITE-UP Texas
Summer is upon us and that means higher electricity bills as we try to stay cool. The System Benefit Fund Low Income Discount Program, known as LITE-UP Texas, provides an electricity rate discount of up to 82 percent for qualifying low-income customers during the months of May, June, July and August. You may already be automatically enrolled in LITE-UP Texas if your currently receive Medicaid or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).  If not, you can still qualify for LITE-UP Texas if your annual household income is at or below 125 percent of the federal poverty guidelines (or up to $29,813 for a family of four). PREPARING FOR HURRICANE SEASON
Hurricane Season is on its way – It is critical to learn about hurricanes and hurricane preparedness. To be safe this Hurricane Season, I encourage you to develop a family/household emergency plan in case of an evacuation. This can include a kit of important supplies such as medication, non-perishable food items and water. If state or local officials order a mandatory evacuation – leave immediately.  Be sure your home is secure, and take your pets with you. If you are elderly or disabled and need evacuation assistance, please call 2-1-1. For information on evacuation routes and road conditions call (800) 452-9292. CAFE CON SYLVIA

Senator Garcia's first "Cafe con Sylvia" was Friday, June 6 at Taqueria Arandas. It was a great way for people to stop by, visit with the Senator and discuss matters important to them and their community. We hope you can make the next one!

Friday, July 4, 2014- Lindale Park 4th of July Parade- 10:00am, Irvington Blvd, South of 610. Join Lindale Park as they celebrate the Fourth of July at their 15th Annual Parade along Irvington Blvd. It is a family friendly event and one of Houston's largest celebration's of America's Independence!

Friday, August, 1, 2014- Back to School Health & Resource Fair, 8:00am-12:00pm, Leonel Castillo Community Center & Moody Park. Summer is officially upon us. As we plan our family trips, outdoor activities, etc., let's all be mindful of key things that will enable us to enjoy this season fully.
