Click here MEDICAL ADVISORY: Baylisascaris procyonis (B. procyonis), Jan. 29, 2019Issued by: Gayane Hovhannisyan, MD, MPH, PhD, FRCPC, Acting Associate Medical Officer of Health BackgroundNiagara Region Public Health & Emergency Services (NRPH&ES) has been notified of Baylisascaris procyonis infections in a group of rabbits at Tim Horton Onondaga Farms in St. George, Ontario. School-aged children from Niagara may have interacted with rabbits at the camp’s petting zoo at the end of November 2018 and may have been exposed to this parasite. The risk of illness is believed to be very low, but parents have been advised to contact their health care provider with any concerns. Disease
Recommended Health Care Professional ActionIf your patient presents with symptoms consistent with neural, ocular or visceral migrans with a history of attending the Tim Hortons Onondaga Farms Camp in St. George, Ontario at the end of November 2018, please consider B. procyonis as a possible cause and refer your patient to an Infectious Disease specialist for further assessment.
