8th Grade Graduation Activities Announced

The 8th Grade Parent Graduation Committee set several events for our class of 2014. Our line up will include:

• Navy Pier Cruise/Luncheon
• 8th Grade Field Trip to Ms. Olympus or Camp Pinewood
• 8th Grade Picnic
• Parent/Child Dance (tentative)
• Graduation Ceremony

Students have brought home letters regarding these events and the behavior expectations that will be adhered to in order for students to participate in these privileges. Please review this note with your student, sign and return it to Ms. Minter by Tuesday, October 15th. You may access the letter by clicking this link to our website.

Students of the Month Honored

Barnard's K-5 Students of the Month were honored at our first Student of the Month breakfast celebration on Wednesday, October 9th. Congratulations to Aidin P.;  1st Grade: Jhia S. ;  2nd Grade: Jaden M.; 3rd Grade: Nia C.; 4th Grade: Kodie W. and 5th Grade: Tamia F. We are very proud of your accomplishment! Parents and students alike enjoyed a continental breakfast and applauded and complimented our exemplary students who managed to embody the qualities of Respect, Responsibility and Safety. Congratulations!

PTO Meeting This Weds, October 16th

After School Programs in Full Swing!

After School All Star programming is up and running! Students across grade levels are enjoying soccer, science clubs, tutoring, drama club, health and fitness, Girls Rock club and more. A few clubs are still open! If you are interested, email Ms. Arthur at cgalvan6@cps.edu.

New Sports Center Slated for Morgan Park/Beverly at 115th and Western

An announcement on October 12th by Alderman Matt O'Shea will greatly impact the resources available to our families in our neighborhood.

At a press conference on Oct. 12, city of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Chicago Park District (CPD) Superintendent Mike Kelly and 19th Ward Ald. Matt O’Shea announced that property on the southeast corner of 115th Street and Western Avenue will be redeveloped to offer local residents a venue for gymnastics—and ice skating—in the Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood.


The Morgan Park Sports Center will be the first and only indoor ice skating rink and gymnastics center in the city of Chicago, Emanuel said, and it couldn’t be going in a better spot.

IB Night Success!

Wednesday, October 9th marked a successful IB night where families, students and teachers came together to learn more about the IB Learner Profile and the rich IB curriculum offered at Barnard. Students and their families engaged in workshops taught by Barnard IB teachers.Topics included Environments, Community and Service, Human Ingenuity, Approaches to Learning and Health and Social. Gym Uniform Ordering

 

The final beginning of the year orders will be arriving  to your student's homeroom soon! All gym uniforms will need to be ordered online through Silk Screen Express for the remainder of the year. Gym t-shirts, shorts, sweatshirts and sweatpants are all available. Also available are regular uniform items such as polo shirts, navy blue pants and skirts. Who is NED? Coming October 29th!

The NED Show is coming to Barnard on October 29th! NED will be working with us on emphasizing our 3 school PBIS rules: Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Safe. Students K-6 will also learn some cool yo-yo tricks and have the opportunity to purchase their very own NED yo-yo's for the next week after the show!
