Outdoors Queensland Awards Winners 2018

Announcing the Winners! Outdoors Queensland Awards

Hi there,

On Friday 26 October we hosted the very successful Outdoors Queensland Awards Dinner where we announced the winners of the 2018 Outdoors Queensland Awards.

Congratulations to all the Award winners - all outstanding in their fields!

While not all finalists took home an Award, all are to be congratulated for simply being a finalist - this itself says much about what they do and their standing in the outdoor community.

The Outdoors Queensland Awards Dinner was lots of fun - the meal was tasty, the company was great and the conversation flowed. Many thanks to all who attended for helping to make it a great evening. Special thanks to Uncle Sam Watson, an elder of the Brisbane based Yuggera people, for his Welcome to Country, to Jemma Wilson for entertaining us with her stories of life as a professional trail bike rider, and to K2 Basecamp for providing a selection of outdoor products for raffle prizes.

Australian Standards

We are currently investigating ways to make a number of Australian Standards more available to our Green Circle members for a modest fee. To do this we need to know what Standards you think would be most useful - for example, today we had a request for the new 2018 ISO 31000 Risk Management.

UPLOADS App Gaining Momentum

Although over 28 organisations have been recruited to use the UPLOADS App so far, more are still needed to meet minimum requirements.

Despite working in the “great” outdoors, the Australian outdoor sector has not been great at measuring how we operate. In addition to providing the outdoor sector with critical data to better understand and help prevent incidents, the UPLOADS app is also a way of measuring participation data on outdoor activities. By measuring participation in different activities across the Australian led outdoor scene, the UPLOADS app can contribute to an improved understanding of what’s happening and where.

The more people contributing data, the better!
