CANZ at 2015 ISCM World Music Days
Representatives of CANZ recently attended the ISCM World Music Days in Slovenia.

Chris Cree Brown was NZ’s represented composer for this year and his work Sound Barrel was performed at the festival. CANZ President Glenda Keam, is currently serving a two-year term on the ISCM executive committee. Read more here…

NZ Music Awards Best Classical Album
Recorded Music NZ announced the nominees for the 2015 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards. The albums of NZ composer Jack Body (Passing By and Songs of Death and Desire) and pianist Michael Houstoun (Beethoven: Complete Piano Sonatas) were named as the finalists for the 2015 Vodafone NZ Music Award for Best Classical Album. Our Resound team has been super busy - as you can tell by looking at the recently published resources...

Did you know that Resound is celebrating its 5th birthday this year? That is five years of documenting NZ art music, thanks to our funder NZ On Air and partner RNZ Concert. So far there are 510 works available to listen, 350 works by 90 composers have been filmed and 75 documentaries and interviews created.

You can explore this fantastic resource by following the weekly Resound Audio of the Week. And don't forget the RNZ Concert's Resound broadcasts, Fridays at 7pm.

 
 

This Other Eden
An opera composed by Anthony Ritchie and libretto by Michelanne Forster. The opera was premiered by Opera Otago as part of the Arts Festival Dunedin.

Salina Fisher is the 2015 NZSO National Youth Orchestra Composer-in-Residence. Her work Rainphase, premiered on 2 July by the NZSO NYO. You can view an interview with Salina here...

This May, chamber music ensemble Karlheinz Company's concert From Dylan to Xenakis featured NZ composers Eve de Castro-Robinson, Lyell Cresswell, John Coulter and David Grahame Taylor.

 
 

The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra performed Jack Body's Melodies for Orchestra this August. Alex Taylor gave a pre-concert talk, which can be viewed on SOUNZ online along with the film of the concert.

The premiere of Kenneth Young's Symphony No.3, performed by the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra with Woolston Brass, took place at the Air Force Museum of NZ with the composer conducting, in September last year.

Chris Gendall: Suite for String Quartet (score). A suite of movements, each inspired by a historical model: plainchant, gigue, tango and the music of the second Viennese School.

 
 

In June this year the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra premiered Ko te tātai whetū, concerto for taonga pūoro, by Phil Brownlee and Ariana Tikao.

CMNZ announced their 2016 season recently and it will be packed with NZ music as usual.

When the Kaleidoscopes Concert Season starts, you can hear Enso String Quartet presenting two new works by Alex Taylor (CMNZ Commissions), Suyeon Kang accompanied by Stephen De Pledge perform Kenneth Young’s  Gone, Julian Bliss & NZTrio feature Ross Harris’s new CMNZ commission There may be light, and James Dunham & NZSQ present Salina Fisher’s new CMNZ Commission.

 
 

In addition, heaps of NZ works will be played in the Regional Encompass Concert Season and of course the Contest – always featuring interesting NZ works.
