Netanyahu visits the UK - Monday 6 FebIt has just been revealed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be visiting the UK and meeting with Prime Minster Theresa May on Monday 6 Feb - just 3 days from now. The Palestine Solidarity Campaign have organised a protest, opposite Downing street, from 11:30am - 1.30pm. Please consider attending this if you are able to - full details can be found on the PSC Facebook event page Parliamentary Debate on Israeli settlements - Thurs 9 FebIsrael has approved the building over 6000 new settlement homes since President Trump's inauguration. 3000 of these were approved just 2 days ago. In light of the UN security resolution passed in December condemning settlements and the UK's continuing policy that settlements are illegal and in violation of international law, Tommy Sheppard MP has secured a debate in parliament this coming Thursday. It is vital that we put pressure on our MPs to attend this debate, and encourage ministers and our government to take concrete action against Israel's actions. Please write to your MP now, asking them to attend and speak at the debate on Thursday. You can email your MP directly from PSC's website here (template letter included so all you have to do is sign) OR; Find out your MPs details on the UK Parliament website and write in your own words. EAPPI has also released this helpful information on the debate Spotlight on the Negev villages at the Lush Summit - 8-9 FebNext week on Wed 8th and Thurs 9th February, the Womens Photoproject from the Bedouin Negev Villages is featured at the Lush Summit in London (Tobacco Dock, Wapping Lane, E1W 2SF ) There will be an exhibition of photos from four Bedouin Negev villages including Umm al-Hiran. Palestinian home demolitions on the rise againThis week an official Palestinian committee announced that the Israeli authorities demolished 143 Palestinian homes in January. The figure is double the number of homes destroyed by the Israelis in January 2016. 2016 saw an unprecedented rise in home demolitions across the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Combined with the dramatic numbers of settlement homes being built, Palestine is more at risk than ever of being built out of existence. In Sep last year we launched an online petition with members of the UK working group for the WWPPI. The petition is still valid, and we have passed 2,000 signatures. However, we would love to see more people signing so we can follow up with Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson MP. Please sign and share! Thanks for reading! We hope that you can help us to spread the word and take action this coming week. In solidarity, Charlotte Marshall Advocacy worker, Kairos Britain |
