JPC Key Message Week 7, Term 2 2020
JPC overcomes the impact of remote learning on our
CARITAS Project Compassion collection! This year JPC was able to hand over $4,058.30 to the Caritas Project Compassion, which was a great effort from students, staff, parents and the greater community. We overcame the impact that everyone being at home had on collecting donations by implementing some great techniques to work towards our goal. We used our trusty online payment platform Qkr! so people were able to donate remotely and online instead of using the traditional coin. Our wonderful IT team also helped by auctioning second-hand technology equipment and donated the funds to our Project Compassion cause. Items were on sale for teachers to bid on and purchase through the online bidding platform, 32Auction. This contributed significantly to our total. Each week throughout Lent, our JPC Houses competed to raise the most money for the cause while totals and leader boards were announced each Friday morning after a long week of effort from the school community. Despite the unforeseen circumstances we have
endured this year, JPC was able to raise funds for those in our community who are less fortunate than us, and we would like to thank those who contributed in any way. Kate Jenkins and Paris Morris

Literacy and Numeracy TutorialsSt John Paul II College is conducting Literacy and Numeracy tutorials during Independent Learning Time. These tutorials will target specific literacy and numeracy skills, with students identified through the data that is collected by the school. Initially, this data includes NAPLAN and ACER PAT data, which allows analysis of individual student achievement in specific
skills in Reading, Writing, and Maths. The tutorials will run in short bursts, with students attending for 4-5 weeks. Each cycle of tutorials focuses on strengthening skills in one particular area. Identified students are auto-allocated to the tutorial on their ILT planner, and will meet with the teacher for a few weeks. For the remainder of the term, the focus areas for the tutorials are: - Year 7/8 Numeracy – Mrs MacGregor – understanding and working with decimals
- Year 7/8 Literacy – Mr Ganley - construction of compound and complex sentences (with appropriate punctuation)
- Year 9/10 Numeracy – Mr Martyn - representing unknowns (algebraic expressions)
- Year 9/10 Literacy – Mrs O’Meara - retrieving directly stated information in more complex texts
If you have any questions about the tutorials, please contact our Literacy and Numeracy Coordinator, Kate MacGregor via email: katrina.macgregor@cg.catholic.edu.au
