13 June 2025

Applications are now open for the NT Fire and Rescue Service’s (NTFRS) newest recruit squad.

The service is seeking dedicated individuals from 18 years of age who are passionate about community service, health and fitness.

A career as a Firefighter in the Northern Territory is both rewarding and challenging, and no two days are the same. As a Firefighter, you’ll be on the frontline, working with a close-knit team to serve and protect the community by:

  • Fighting fires to save lives and property
  • Responding to vehicle crashes, HAZMAT incidents and other emergencies
  • Educating the community about fire safety and preparedness
  • Implementing fire mitigation and prevention strategies
  • Inspecting buildings to ensure compliance and fire safety.

Reasons to join

NT Firefighters are some of the fittest people in the community, and whether it’s through training or active duty, you’ll stay in great shape while doing meaningful work. Firefighters also enjoy:

  • Nine weeks of annual leave each year
  • A roster of 2 days, 2 nights and four days off
  • Continuous training and development opportunities and career progression.

‘Come and Try’ days

Quotes attributable to A/Commissioner, NT Fire and Emergency Services, Collene Bremner:

“Being a Firefighter is more than just a job – it’s a calling and a commitment to serve and protect the community.

“Firefighting is extremely challenging, and members must be in peak physical condition. The job is demanding, testing and no two days are the same.

“As a Firefighter you must also be a people person – not only does teamwork make up the backbone of the NT Fire and Rescue Service, but our members engage with the public daily, and often do so in some of the most traumatic moments of a person’s life.

“If you think you have what it takes to give it ago, submit your application through our website.”
