Dear Bowls SA Member Club & Association,
Thank you for joining us on this afternoon’s webinar and thank you for your ongoing support and patience as Bowls SA work our way through these times.
The latest news is that Bowls SA can get back to roll ups (practice) as of now.
Bowls SA want to make it clear, that individual clubs and venues and their respective boards of management must provide official direction for their members as to whether they can use their greens and in what capacity.
As highlighted yesterday, roll ups are permissible according to authorities as a social and recreational activity.
It is crucial that Bowls SA emphasise if authorities see otherwise with things such as competitions, tournaments or even formal training, they have advised that they will close the activity down.
Members, visitors and night owlers are welcome to have a roll up, but it is recommended you follow these guidelines:
• Maximum of 10 bowlers per green – up to 50 in total on greens
• Clean mats and jacks before and after use. Spray and/or wipe with disinfectant
• If rolling up in a group one person only to handle jacks and mats
• Wash/disinfect hands before and after practice.
• If using club bowls wash/disinfect bowls before and after use
There is no provision yet to play organised tournaments club or others or to get back to pennant competition.
Bowls SA want to make it clear, that individual clubs and venues and their respective boards of management must provide official direction for their members as to whether they can use their greens and in what capacity.
Up to 100 people per venue are allowed, and this number includes what is happening on the green – it is on and off the green in total on the premises.
For example, you could have 30 over 3 greens, 70 inside if your covid safe plan permits that many people.
Covid safe plans must be followed at all times during this process.
No more than 50 in the area of the greens at any one time.
The rule of one person per four square metres and social distancing of one and a half metres must be adhered to.
Thank you for your questions over the past few days, Bowls SA have some here that we will answer, along with some frequently asked questions Bowls SA have received over the past week:
• The use of QR codes as a way of keeping track of who is at the venue - if that is not doable due to people not having smart phones, then keep a hard copy record
• We are recommending 10 per green - seek advise from COVID hotline.
• Can we play club championships - no
• Which is correct; our COVID plan saying we can have 90 people or venues can have 50 as stated by Clubs SA – Covid plan
• Do we still need to have a covid marshall – yes
• Is bowls classed as a sport – yes
• Can Gala Days and other events go ahead - no
• Any capacity where you will require a scorecard or you are keeping score in any form is not permitted
• Is the covid marshall included in the 100 – yes
• We haven’t received an updated covid plan – call the covid hotline and then submit to your association. Bowls SA are here to assist and recommend, but we are not here to give approval
Covid hotline number is - 1800 253 787
It is up to each individual club to ensure these guidelines are followed and met.
Bowls SA would once again like to emphasise that we are not the body to give approvals to covid safe plans, we are here to assist clubs with formulating their plans, but they must be approved by SA Health before they are official.
If you need any assistance with your club’s covid safe plan, then you can contact Bowls SA.
Bowls SA also recommend that with the forecast hot weather for the coming week, that you also initiate an inclement weather plan.
Whereby practicing or any activity on a bowling green should not be done in temperatures of 38 degrees or above.
To ensure you are all receiving all of our correspondence, and to make sure we have up to date contact details and to check in, we are working our way through contacting all clubs and associations by next Friday
Tuesday, December 1 is the day we are looking to at the moment – we expect more changes to come then.
Bowls SA remains committed to complying with advice provided by levels of Government for all bowling activities under its control.
All Associations and their affiliated Bowling Clubs must also give absolute priority to the safety and well-being of participants, especially for those over 60-years of age.
Bowls SA also recommend that with the forecast hot weather for the coming week, that you also initiate an inclement weather plan.

Bowls SA will continue to communicate any developments to all our member associations and clubs as we receive them.
A transcript and footage of this Zoom call will be distributed at the conclusion of this meeting.
Our next Webinar will be on Thursday, November 26 – this week – at 4pm.
