New BES Remote Chapel Begins April 8BES is excited to offer a weekly Remote Chapel each Wednesday starting on April 8. A pre-recorded video link will be emailed to parents and faculty on Wednesdays so that you can view it from home. These chapels will be simple, short, and offer spiritual reflections for our school community. A scripture will be read, a brief devotional shared, and then a song or prayer will close out our time together. A video of the chapel will also be shared through the school's social media accounts. Our first Remote Chapel on April 8 will be led by Mr. Skornia and will center on Matthew 11. Take a look at the passage below from that chapter, and begin reflecting on the promises God is communicating to us through His Word. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” We hope you will set aside time with your family to watch these weekly chapels as a family, and then be encouraged as you hear the truth of God's Word. Share Remote Learning Photos on Social MediaOur second week of remote learning has produced some wonderful and unique learning experiences for our students (and teachers), as evidenced by Mrs. T making science fun through an interactive lesson with second grade. Earlier this week, students learned about an adaptation some birds possess that utilizes an oil gland to waterproof their feathers. Many other grade levels are having similar experiences with their teachers, and we are thrilled to see the engagement and energy as we blaze this new trail together. To further help us to see the amazing learning experiences of our students during this time, we ask that parents tag photos of your students in action with #BESremotelearning on your social media posts. Our school community can then share in the unique joy that virtual school produces in our students. Thank you for your partnership! CARES Act Offers Tax Benefits to Donors for 2020The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act provides tax benefits which incentivize giving to non-profit organizations. Previously, taxpayers who claimed the standard deduction of $10,000 (a group which includes 92% of all taxpayers) did not get a tax benefit related to any charitable contributions they made during the tax year. The CARES Act changes this by allowing taxpayers who do not itemize their deductions to deduct up to $300 of cash contributions to public charities with an above-the-line deduction in tax years beginning in 2020. The new deduction does not apply to non-cash gifts or to gifts contributed to donor advised funds. These changes allow taxpayers to take a larger deduction for charitable contributions than would normally be available.
