Key Messages Week 3 - Term 4Are your Girls Growing? Have they outgrown their school dresses? JPC’s expectation for the girl’s dresses is that they are to be knee-length for modesty. This allows our female students to be comfortable walking up the stairs, sit at their desks or run around the oval with no worries. Please do not re-hem the dresses shorter. If dresses are not preferred, we now offer JPC summer shorts (available at Lowes Gungahlin) that can be worn with the college white shirt with blue trim for Juniors. We have limited stock in our second-hand shop but if there is a size that fits, you can swap your uniform or see the message below from the College Office about selling/swapping uniform through the JPCII - Uniform & Tech to you Facebook page. The Wellbeing Team Introducing new Student and Family Counsellor at JPC JPC is delighted to welcome Sarah McKenna to the counselling team. Sarah joins Jessica Sutherland and will be available on Thursdays and Fridays. Sarah has previous experience at headspace, as well as at an EAP service, providing individual counselling to adults, children and families. She also has experience facilitating parent groups such as Tuning in to Teens. As well as working at JPC she is completing a PhD in clinical psychology which is focused on understanding the quality of parent-teen relationships. She is looking forward to the opportunity to work with the entire school community, including students, teachers and parents, to improve wellbeing outcomes for our students. The Student and Family Counsellors are available to both students and their families. If you would like to refer your child, or making an appointment for yourself with one of the counsellors, please contact the school. Counsellor hours are:
In and Around the School Youth Ministry Team Preparing to LEAD in 2020 This week our Youth Ministry Team took time out of their busy schedules to reflect on their experiences of ministry this year, and begin to plan for 2020. Working with the wonderful team of Nathan Gallea, Huw Warmenhoven, and our own Youth Minister, Lachlan Bull, our students were guided through a series of activities that gave them time to think deeply about the call of discipleship and to develop their vision for next year. It was wonderful to share this special afternoon with our wonderful Youth Ministry Team. Their enthusiasm, camaraderie, and willingness to engage in embracing challenging questions of faith and witness was on display this week, as it has been throughout the year. Our thanks to Nathan, Huw and Lachlan, and also to Miss Cheryl Jones, for leading our students through this powerful session. Mrs. Nicola Edghill Leader of Learning and Wellbeing – Mission and Ministry Pink Spirit Day On Wednesday 23 October at Holy Spirit School the community celebrated Pink Spirit Day! It started with a breakfast that was attended by many JPC families. The crowds were entertained by some of our JPC band members - Adam, Will, Tafara, Christiaan and Sultan. Thank you to these boys and Miss Robinson for sharing the morning with us. There was a sea of pink and a wonderful atmosphere as people dined on egg and bacon rolls, fruit salad and sausages. A lot of money was raised for a very good cause - Breast Cancer Research. After the Pink Spirit breakfast, nine lucky students were chosen from the raffle to cut off Mrs Johns’ (Grade 2 Teacher) hair. The hall was filled with the students chanting “Cut it off! Cut it off!” Jane’s hair will be made into wigs for people going through cancer treatment. At recess and lunch, students donated even more money to the Pink Sale with lots of yummy treats to choose from. It was an excellent day generously supported by the HSP and JPC community. Thank you to the families and staff who attended and helped to contribute to our total of over $3000. We are tickled pink with the support shown by the whole community. If you would like to support the Pink Spirit Day there is still time to donate through this link https://fundraise.nbcf.org.au/fundraiser/vickiwalsh Vicki Walsh DSM Band Tour On Wednesday 30th October, 6 of our JPC bands went on tour. The day was an amazing experience for everyone in all 6 bands as well as the tech crew. We all loved performing in front of the kids and showing off all of the musical talents that we have on offer at JPC. We performed for Holy Spirit, Mother Teresa, and Good Shepard. The kids loved it and were all singing and clapping along. A huge thank you to Mr. Lyon for organizing this amazing event for us. Thank you JPCII – Uniform & Tech to You With the growth of the College, many families are looking for ways to buy and sell items that are no longer required. Based on this demand St John Paul II College Community Council has established a “closed” Facebook Page to enable parents and carers to buy and sell preloved uniform and school technology equipment (ie laptop/ipads). Families will still be able to donate Uniforms through the College Front Office to the 2nd Hand Uniform Shop with items sold at a discounted rate. Funds raised from the Uniform Shop are utilised to support other families in our College Community. Visit Facebook and search for JPCII - Uniform & Tech to You Further details about the JPC Community Council can be found here Leaving JPC? Thank you for your understanding and your continued support for the Hospitality Staff and Students. World’s Greatest Shave I first met Mia Gibb at the start of the year when she was asking about participating in the World’s Greatest Shave. Mia is in year 7 with the most beautiful, long, blonde hair. I was amazed and so proud that one of our students wanted to do such a brave thing. Mia’s Aunty has suffered with leukemia, and fortunately her story is a successful one. Mia’s Aunty is her motivation for doing the World’s Greatest Shave this year. Through Mia’s friendship, kindness and willingness to do amazing things, she has gained a huge committee of JPC students to back her, either also shaving, colouring or simply helping to raise funds for the Leukemia foundation. Mia’s goal is $10,000! She is aiming high and hoping she can reach her goal by the date of the shave. The shave will take place on Wednesday 4th December from 5-7.30pm during our end of term music concert; Christmas picnic extravaganza which will be held on the terrace while people picnic on the oval. Every music student will be performing and we will also be having face painting, balloon making and a sausage sizzle. All funds raised will go towards the Leukemia foundation. Mia would very much appreciate your support. If you would like to donate, the link to Mia’s fundraising page (team Kessie) is below. We would love to see you at the concert to watch Mia and others shave for a cure! We are all super proud of you Mia and JPC will be supporting you all the way!!!
