Victory in the Works

RVi is excited to announce our involvement with Victory District at Verrado, a new 1,350-acre age restricted community located within the larger 8,800-acre Verrado community in Buckeye, AZ.  Developer DMB Associates recently broke ground on the new district, which is designed with today’s Baby Boomers in mind.

“Victory provides the necessary flexibility for Boomers who want to work, stay healthy, have fun and be actively engaged in the community,” said Nick Taratsas, Senior Vice President at DMB and General Manager of the Victory District.

The new community is the result of DMB’s extensive research on health, wellness, arts, culture, and longevity as they relate to the Baby Boomer generation.  It is designed to provide exactly the kind of lifestyle that members of this generation are looking for, including maintaining physical health with activities such as golf and access to parks and trails, the opportunity for social activities in a state-of-the-art community center, and proximity to services located within the Verrado community as well as in the nearby town of Buckeye.

RVi provided master planning services for the Victory District.

10 Million Kids Outdoors: Fostering the Next Generation of Environmental Stewardship

From television to video games, texting to the Internet – in a world that is increasingly filled with indoor entertainment options, how do we foster a conservation ethic among members of the next generation?  Together with our clients Michael Morris and Stacie Talbert from the City of Corpus Christi, RVi Vice President and Director of Park Design Barbara Austin explored this topic in an educational session at the recent National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Congress and Exposition.

In the panel discussion, the group explained how multiple agencies – at the city, state, and national level – came together to create a compelling programmatic plan for the Oso Bay Nature Preserve and Learning Center.  The park is an ambitious project that seeks to strengthen children’s emotional connection with nature through education, discovery, and play.  The first phase of the project was recently completed, and construction on Phase 2 will begin soon.

RVi Celebrates 31 Years with Parks & Paddles

This fall marked RVi’s 31st anniversary and our annual retreat, which was held on October 18th. The day started bright and early for the Austin office – departing for Houston at 7am. After a tour of RVi’s recently expanded Houston office space, we took advantage of the beautiful weather by kayaking along the Buffalo Bayou. RVi Business Manager Dianne Hughes even caught a fish… with her kayak! Of course, the day was not complete without someone (who shall remain anonymous) taking an unexpected plunge in the water.

Following our trip down the bayou, we embarked on a tour of Discovery Green, where we learned about the unique design features of the park and the maintenance required to keep the facility running smoothly. We ended the day with a delicious dinner at The Grove and our annual T-shirt contest. This year’s winner was Colin Owen – click here to see his design!

We thank our clients and friends for 31 wonderful years, and we look forward to the many more to come!
