World Suicide Prevention Day is a chance for everyone to join together to promote an understanding about suicide and those impacted by a suicide attempt or loss. The theme for this year is "Creating Hope Through Action". To keep the conversation going, the Niagara Suicide Prevention Coalition is hosting a lunch and learn webinar on Sept. 15, 2021 from noon to 1 p.m. This webinar will educate Niagara residents about local resources for suicide prevention and intervention, as well as learn how to connect with these services. KNOW MORE National TourAre you interested in a training opportunity on the health risks associated with problematic opioid use that is proactive, interactive and educational? The Overdose Education Prevention Network of Niagara would like to highlight this youth, young adult training provided by Health Canada. The tour engages students on topics including overdose awareness and understanding the crisis in Canada, signs of an opioid overdose, as well as addressing stigma towards people who use drugs. Annual Memorial Forest VigilEvery October, a Memorial Forest Vigil takes place on the Thursday during Mental Illness Awareness Week. The Memorial Forest seeks to lessen the stigma around mental illness and promote a greater understanding and compassion from the community as a whole. This year's event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021. You can sign up to attend in person, or you are welcome to view the event online. AMHO's Equity, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression FrameworkAddictions and Mental Health Ontario is pleased to share our finalized Equity, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression Framework which provides direction for how they and their 200+ member organizations of addiction and mental health providers will advance equity, anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion, starting with a focus on addressing anti-Indigenous and anti-Black racism. We are working with members across the province to implement the framework using a regional approach.
