World Suicide Prevention Day

Sept.10, 2021 is World Suicide Prevention Day. In Canada, one person every 11 days is lost to suicide. World Suicide Prevention Day is a chance for everyone to join together to promote an understanding about suicide and those impacted by a suicide attempt or loss. The theme for this year is "Creating Hope Through Action". To keep the conversation going, the Niagara Suicide Prevention Coalition is hosting a lunch and learn webinar on Sept. 15, 2021 from noon to 1 p.m. This webinar will educate Niagara residents about local resources for suicide prevention and intervention, as well as learn how to connect with these services.

AMHO's Equity, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression Framework

Addictions and Mental Health Ontario is pleased to share our finalized Equity, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression Framework which provides direction for how they and their 200+ member organizations of addiction and mental health providers will advance equity, anti-racism, diversity, and inclusion, starting with a focus on addressing anti-Indigenous and anti-Black racism. We are working with members across the province to implement the framework using a regional approach. Please visit our website to view the framework and see how it builds on Ontario Health's Framework, and guides how service providers deliver and embed equity, anti-racism, and anti-oppression into the service delivery and business operations.

Mental Health Promotion in Schools

With the return to school, mental health promotion is a priority as there have been many negative health impacts for students over the course of the pandemic. With transitioning in and out of school settings, less social support and engagement and coping with stay at home orders, there has been added stress for students. School Mental Health Ontario is a valuable resource for educators, parents and students. Search the link below to familiarize yourself with the resources and evidence-based strategies and services.
