We are excited for a new program at WNH -- the Community Fund. This is a way for dancers who have a little extra money to help those who cannot afford to take classes or come to dances. Rob Reich’s “Swings Left” is inspired by the Benny Goodman groups of the late 1930s and feature classic arrangements made popular by Goodman, Ellington, Basie and others. Always a treat to have them play for us! October SeriesBeginners (8:15pm - 9:15pm) Come learn the Lindy Hop! This grandfather of all swing dances is fun, creative, and addicting. Progressive material over the course of the month will get you up and dancing at our weekly parties in no time. This class is two-left-feet friendly, and the first of four months of Beginner's curriculum. Pre-requisites: None. No partner required, just bring comfy shoes and your enthusiasm!
Social (7:15pm - 8:15pm) What is swing music? And what does it mean to be "musical" anyway? What's the difference between eight-count patterns and six-count patterns and why would we transition between them? Answers to all of these and others hand-picked by our instructors! Pre-requisites: All 4 months of Beginners Track or equivalent experience. No partner required, just bring comfy shoes and your enthusiasm!
Technical (7:15pm - 8:15pm) Dancing creatively and playfully can happen even in the simplest move when you have shapes to make and play with! We will be exploring the shapes our bodies make in Lindy Hop and playing with them for fun and partnership! Come learn how to make your simplest dance moves uniquely yours! Pre-requisites: All 4 months of Beginners Track or equivalent experience. No partner required, just bring comfy shoes and your enthusiasm!
Elective (8:15pm - 9:15pm) "Shag" was a term for partnered dancing that erupted in many forms during the swing era. This particular style caught on in colleges with young dancers itching to cut a rug and fraternize co-ed style. The class will be taught ELEF (Everyone Leads, Everyone Follows) from the ground up. If you're curious to try both roles in a warm, welcoming environment, join us to learn these energetic moves, perfect for fast-paced jazz! Pre-requisites: None. No partner required, just bring comfy shoes and your enthusiasm!
