Please email events@aqiuinas.wa.edu.au or call 9450 0660 to get the ball rolling. There is not a lot to it, you just need to lock in a date and a venue and the Alumni office can help you with the rest. You can also submit your upcoming events to the same email address so that we can share them with the Aquinas community. "Early in 2021 we started planning our 40 year reunion. The College gave us tremendous guidance and assistance from day one. Nichole Rowson was our contact at the school and she provided us with contact details for our class group as held by the College. We formed a small group that chose a venue, a date and followed up on those whom details were missing or out-of-date. Nichole set up a Facebook page for the Class of 1981 and helped to administer this page. As we found 'lost' mates, Nichole updated the central details and coordinated the sending out of all invitations as the receipt of all payments. It was so easy and we had a fantastic night! Thank you Nichole and thank you Aquinas." Tom Mitchell ('81) Congratulations to the Class of 2021 on their graduation from Aquinas College and welcome to OAA! Make sure you provide your email address to oaa@aquinas.wa.edu.au so you can receive function invites. Make sure you also follow OAA on socials to keep up to date. Br Clery Shout Out Br Clery is known to many in the Aquinas College community as a fanatical cricket supporter – a demon fast bowler in his time! He holds a record for taking six wickets in an over without taking a hat trick… back in the day of 8 ball overs! On his travels over January Br Clery came across a small country town called Narrikup. What piqued his interest is a cricket field that is at the heart and soul of the town. The fence surrounding this field is not the traditional picket fence but one that is made up of donated cricket bats. The unique fence started with a gate back in 2011 and has continued to expand since then. The locals have done a great job but need more bats. Please see the link to an ABC article on this unique landmark. Br Clery is hoping that we can have a section of the fence known as the Aquinas College bay. To this end he has asked that an approach be made to Aquinians to donate any old bats that can be passed onto the Narrikup Cricket Club to assist in the development of the fence. The bats can be of any size or condition. He has also engaged with Luke Wimbridge, Director of Cricket, to assist in the cause. The bats can be left at the College reception until 8 April 2022. Any messages of support can be sent to Brian.Clery@aquinas.wa.edu.au Any contributions will be taken to Narrikup by Br Clery and we will provide an update to the College community on the progress of our section of the fence. The original group of travellers was comprised of Aquinas graduates from the 1950’s, with ‘friends’ added along the way as numbers dwindled. Fast forward to 2022 and many of the original group have passed away or now find touring too difficult due to illness or incapacity. Students love to meet and talk with Old Boys. If you'd like to visit the campus and share some wisdom, please contact oaa@aquinas.wa.edu.auFarewell, David I have informed the community, and now the old boys that I have decided to resign from the position of Principal of Aquinas College, Perth and will conclude my tenure at the end of the third term 2022. I have attached an announcement from Craig Wattam the Executive Director of EREA. This was not an easy decision to arrive at as I have always enjoyed working in the Aquinas community. After careful consideration, I have decided to leave and return with my family home to South West Ireland. I am grateful for the wonderful support that the community has provided in my position for the past six years. I have appreciated the opportunities I have had at Aquinas College, both as a Christian Brother School (1998-2001) and more recently as an EREA School (2017-2022). My time at Aquinas College has taught me the importance of perspective and the need to ensure that you always do the things you believe in, rather than running with an alternative path. During my remaining terms, I will continue to work closely with the community and my fellow Principals, and I will do everything possible to ensure a smooth transition with the College Leadership Team, whose counsel I have greatly valued. The Chair of the Aquinas College Advisory Council will keep the community informed of the plans and process to find my replacement. I have always appreciated the support of the old boys community, even those I taught! I would like to take the opportunity to wish you and The College all the best in the future.
