American Pilot Season. There are now year-round opportunities for Australian actors to self-test in Australia for USA projects. We prepare actors to be fit and ready when opportunity knocks.

8 Week Program I Monday Nights I 6:30pm - 9:30pm I Commencing August 3rd, 2015

The US market is closer to our Australian entertainment industry than ever before.  It is now not a matter of simply waiting for pilot season to come around for opportunities abroad, it's all year round!  Gone are the days when you are expected to pack your bags in January, bound for American pilot season. These days with such advanced technology, pilot season can be achieved effectively from the comfort of your own home via mastering the art of self-taping. Appears easy, but to achieve that all expenses paid call back to Los Angeles, you must become your own best casting director.

Australian actors must also have a flawless American accent. With Tyler Coppin at the helm, actors could not be in better hands. From week 1 to week 5, Tyler will not only work with actors on American dialect but on speaking 'like an American'. Tyler is a Helpmann Award winner (2006) and is known as an actor, playwright and American dialect coach for actors in film, television & theatre. Tyler has had a hand in prepping many of our actors who have been called back for American projects from self-taping here in Australia. We are delighted to have him back at the studio after his work on the highly successful musical adaptation of Baz Luhrmann's Strictly Ballroom.

In week 6 we welcome back the ever-popular Damian Walshe-Howling who will be directing the carefully selected scenes in weeks 6 and 7.  Damian is fast becoming a director of note in the Australian film & television industry, due to his ability to draw the best performances out of the actors he is directing and his keen eye for detail. He is also our director of choice for our Professional (Full-Time) Acting for Television Program end of year showcase. As well as being recognised for his outstanding work as a director, he is still best known for his gritty roles as an actor - most notably, his breakout role of Benji Veniamin in the Original Underbelly Series, for which he won the Best Supporting actor in a drama series at the 2008 AFI awards. In week 8, Damian will be joined by the very talented cameraman Pier Carthew (who has also been hand picked to film our Full Time end of year showcase scenes).  Pier will be filming and editing each actors self tape on high end professional equipment. Each actor will receive a copy of their finished self tape upon the conclusion of this program.

TYLER COPPIN: Amercian Dialect Coach

USA native Tyler Coppin is Film & Television Studio International's coach of choice in preparing actors for pilot season. We are extremely fortunate to have Tyler back after a sell out season on Baz Luhrmann's Strictly Ballroom.  Tyler is a NIDA Graduate and is a recipient of a Helpmann & Edinburgh Fringe Festival Award.  Tyler has served as dialect coach on feature films Dark City (starring Keifer Sutherland and Jennifer Connelly), The Night we called it a Day (starring Rose Byrne, Dennis Hopper & Portia De Rossi) and Where the Wild Things Are (starring James Gandolfini, Ryan Corr and Mark Ruffalo). Tyler will be working intimately with each student on general American Dialect, giving each performer a firm foundation to work from.  It is suggested that actors record each session as a reference point for future auditions.
