MEMO: Final Notices for Students Born 2006-2018

TO:   Healthcare Providers in Niagara who Administer Vaccines to School Aged Children

FROM: Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) Program, Niagara Region Public Health

REFERENCE: Final Notices for Students Born 2006-2018

DATE: June 9, 2023

Final Notices are Being Sent for Remaining Cohorts

Approximately 13,000 final (second) notices are being sent for the remaining cohorts (2006 – 2018 birth years). These notices have been going out in batches from mid-May to the end of June.  We are asking for their updated information by July 24, 2023.

Students who do not update their immunization information over the summer may be mailed an Order for Suspension in August, which will be enforced in the upcoming academic school year.

Health Care Provider Action

  • Have appointments available to help students catch-up on missed vaccines
  • Check immunization status when you are seeing a student for any reason, and offer vaccine if needed
  • Ensure your office has enough vaccine to accommodate this potential increased demand. As a reminder, if you receive any previously exposed vaccine as a part of your order follow the instructions provided by Public Health included with your vaccine orders. The previously exposed vaccine is stable for continued use.
    • Use the General Vaccine Order Form for ISPA required vaccines
    • Use the School Program Vaccine Order Form for meningococcal vaccine

More Information

  • Follow the progress and current status of student immunizations

  • If you are unable to see all of these students in your practice, Public Health has many vaccination clinics planned over the summer

  • The VaxFacts Clinic is a referral option for parents/legal guardians who are uncertain about getting their child vaccinated. They can book an appointment for a one-to-one phone call with a doctor to have a judgement free conversation in a safe space.

  • The full exemption process can be found on our exemption from child care and school vaccinations webpage
  • Contact the Vaccine Preventable Disease program at 1-888-505-6074 or 905-688-8248 ext. 7396 for any questions
