Click here November 6, 2020 28 CFR Part 23Online Training Refreshed and Now Available The Bureau of Justice Assistance, in conjunction with Global and the Criminal Intelligence Coordinating Council (CICC), is proud to announce the refreshed version of the Criminal Intelligence Systems Operating Policies 28 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 23 (28 CFR Part 23) Online Training Program. Information on taking this online training is available on the National Criminal Intelligence Resource Center website. 28 CFR Part 23 provides federal guidelines for law enforcement agencies that operate federally funded multijurisdictional criminal intelligence systems. This training is designed to help state and local law enforcement agencies understand the guidelines and how they pertain to the development and implementation of policies and procedures that facilitate intelligence sharing. The refreshed training offers a more intuitive and user-friendly experience with several important improvements. These include enhanced navigation settings and improved completion status messaging, more in-depth content and interactive real-world scenarios, the ability to stop and start at the user’s convenience, an enhanced FAQ section, and the ability to retake the training at any time. If you are a new user and want to take the 28 CFR Part 23 online training, access is available only through the secure websites of the Regional Information Sharing Systems (RISS) or the FBI’s Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal (LEEP), or through your Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) News The UCR Data Tool Has Been Replaced As of today, Friday, November 6, the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) data tool has been replaced by the FBI’s Crime Data Explorer (CDE). The UCR data tool will no longer be available, and visitors will automatically be forwarded to the CDE. The CDE is an interactive tool that presents charts and graphs that break down data in a variety of ways. The CDE also offers an Application Programming Interface (API) that allows developers to make interactive applications to share large amounts of data in meaningful ways. Users of the API will be able to access UCR data from 1979 to the current publication. Virtual Conference 2020 Destination Zero for Officer Safety and Wellness The Destination Zero Officer Safety and Wellness Conference is a biannual gathering of law enforcement officials who are dedicated to improving the safety and wellness of their employees. Destination Zero is a program of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance. This year’s conference, managed by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF), will feature prominent keynote speakers, two live panel discussions, the 2020 National Officer Safety and Wellness awards ceremony, and sessions featuring past Destination Zero national award winners and finalists. These virtual officer safety and wellness workshops are designed to assist agencies with beginning or enhancing their local initiatives to keep officers safe, mentally and physically healthy, and emotionally resilient. When: Tuesday, November 10, 2020 TrainingIntellectual Property Theft Training Sponsored by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, and hosted by the National White Collar Crime Center and National Association of Attorneys General, this course introduces the problem of intellectual property (IP) theft and provides tools, techniques, and resources for investigating and prosecuting these crimes. A combination of lecture, discussion, and interactive exercises illustrates the potential dangers and economic repercussions of counterfeit products, as well as best practices and techniques for investigating IP theft. Students are provided with a state-specific workbook that includes relevant statutes, sample organizational documents for IP investigations, and additional resources for investigators and prosecutors. When: Friday, November 13, 2020 U.S. Department of JusticeAnnounces the Use of Body-Worn Cameras on Federal Task Forces On Thursday, October 29, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that it will permit state, local, territorial, and tribal task force officers to use body-worn cameras on federal task forces around the nation. The department’s policy will permit federally deputized officers to activate body-worn cameras while serving arrest warrants or during other planned arrest operations, as well as during the execution of search warrants.
