2019 was an incredibly successful year for many of our students who booked series regular roles, guest roles and major national and international television commercial campaigns.  We also welcomed more amazing trainers to the studio, as well as multi-award winning special guests: all leaders in their respective fields.  In 2020 we will continue to springboard our talent into the film and television industry, by providing first class cutting edge training with leading industry professionals, working at the coalface of our business.  To kick start a new exciting decade, Film & Television Studio International is thrilled to welcome to the studio, one of Australia's leading Film & Television Casting Directors, MARIANNE JADE from MAURA FAY CASTING.  Marianne has been appointed Casting Director of our most anticipated, big budget Australian television drama series BARONS, set to be cast and screened on ABC in 2020. The series is set in the 1970s and centres on two surfers who become fierce rivals as they create billion-dollar empires, winning and losing themselves along the way. The series parallels the story of the pioneers behind the Billabong and Quiksilver surf labels.  The eight part series is filmed in Australia, the United States and Indonesia, and will provide an enormous amount of work for both cast and crew in Australia in 2020.  STAN, Screen Australia and Film Victoria have recently announced that production has commenced on the second season of the TV Week Logie award-winning drama series BLOOM.  Also cast by MAURA FAY CASTING, the six-part STAN Original Series welcomes back its stars from the first season, including Jacki Weaver, Bryan Brown and Phoebe Tonkin. The series, which recently received five AACTA award nominations, and won the 2019 Logie for Most Outstanding Miniseries, will film in various locations across Victoria and premiere exclusively on STAN in 2020.   Sydney based Marianne, has been a Senior Casting Director at MAURA FAY CASTING for many years.  Their extensive credits list includes Australian and International Film, Television, TVC, Stage and Musical Theatre productions, with strong International connections in Los Angeles, New York, and London.  Our students are incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to meet and greet Marianne, and to showcase their work to her at the end of Term 1.

Text to Screen-Test has been facilitated by some of Australia's most celebrated actors and directors over the years.  Term 1, 2020 is no exception.  We welcome to the studio for the first time ever, 2019 Gold Logie Nominee Eve Morey.  A sublime actor, best known for her outstanding work as Sonya Rebecchi on NEIGHBOURS, Eve is also an onset coach on the show, assisting actors not only with their scene/character work, but with their understanding of how they live and work as artists within the community. We have wanted Eve as part of our team for a long time, so we are incredibly excited to officially welcome her to Film & Television Studio International as one of our ongoing trainers/coaches.  Due to popular demand, the gorgeous Kym Valentine is back for Term 1.  There are very few Australian actors of Kyms generation that can boast a whopping 20 years dedicated to one Aussie drama. Of course we are talking about Libby Kennedy, a role that Kym made famous whilst starring on NEIGHBOURS. These days, in between auditioning for new roles, Kyms main focus is mentoring the next generation of performers breaking into one of the most demanding and competitive industries in the world. Kym is one of our most recognisable Australian actors; a true Aussie icon of the small screen. Television veteran, NEIGHBOURS Director & long-time trainer and Patron of Film & Television Studio International Simone Buchanan is also back for another fantastic term ahead.  Text to Screen-Test has been meticulously shaped to guide and encourage students to work on their specific areas requiring development, whilst bringing forth their strengths when screen-testing for prime-time drama.  Eve, Kym and Simone will work with actors both individually and as a company, assisting students to POP from moment one of an audition. Scenes are assigned to students throughout the term block, along with prep work for each session. For actors who participated in previous terms, they have another opportunity to work in this ongoing manner with our outstanding trainers & special guests. Continuing across the terms ensures stability in training & rehearsal, and consistency in terms of the guidance & feedback offered, with scenes selected to target specific areas of weakness and strength. The studio also welcomes actors to the program who have not participated in previous terms as they can begin this process, leading to a stronger understanding of the requirements of screen testing.

On the last week of term, students will be able to put their hard work into practice during their screen-testing session with CASTING DIRECTOR Marianne Jade.  This is an incredible opportunity for our actors to recieve direction and personal feedback on their work.  She is very much looking forward to seeing the wonderful talent we have at Film & Television Studio International.

The inimitable Maura Fay formed Maura Fay Casting in 1987. She was a tour de force in the industry and a great one for spotting talent and networking between actors, producers, networks and studios. She was at the forefront of film and television during the time that Australia became a global influence during the 1990’s, aggressively seeking relationships in the United States allowing creative business people to see the wealth of talent and opportunity in Australia. She worked out of Sydney but opened the Melbourne & Queensland offices in 1989. Then, as is now, the company had a presence at each of the major studios on the east coast – Fox Studios in Sydney, Docklands in Melbourne and Warner Roadshow in Queensland. Maura sadly passed away in 2001 but she left behind the integrity of her business acumen, her joy and passion for the job and her effervescent personality. Maura’s sister Ann Fay had worked with Maura for many years and continues her legacy today. Alongside Lou Mitchell, Marianne Jade and Leigh Pickford, Maura Fay Casting continues to work today as one of the most creative, exciting, successful casting companies in Australia.

Maura Fay Casting are passionate about their work and have nurtured and helped shape some of Australia’s finest talents. They are a dynamic group of people that work across all mediums – film, television, stage, musical theatre, TVCs – and continuously seek to provide the best talent Australia can offer. EVE MOREY is known for her guest appearances on PIGS BREAKFAST, HOME AND AWAY, and ALL SAINTS.  She then went on to spend a decade on Australian TV soap NEIGHBOURS as series regular Sonya Rebecchi before her characters exit in 2019.  Eve was part of the series for more than 900 episodes. During the series renewal talks, it was revealed that Eve would leave, and she pitched the story on how her character would exit. Her heartbreaking final scenes on the show earned her a Silver Logie Nomination for Best Actress and a Gold Logie Nomination. After her exit from NEIGHBOURS, Eve stayed on behind the scenes as an acting coach and mentor to actors coming on to the show. We are so excited to have Eve join our outstanding team of coaches in 2020.

After playing Debbie Kelly for many years in Australia's most successful and longest running sitcom HEY DAD, Simone went on to star alongside Deborah Lee Furness in internationally acclaimed feature film SHAME.  Simone has also starred in many television dramas including NEIGHBOURS; McLEOD'S DAUGHTERS; BLUE HEELERS; WATER RATS; ALL SAINTS; PACIFIC DRIVE; A COUNTRY PRACTICE; SONS AND DAUGHTERS, and many more.  In addition to SHAME, her film credits include: FORCED ENTRY; PUSH; THE MAN FROM THE HIGH COUNTRY; DOCTORS AND NURSES, and MY BRILLIANT CAREER.  Most recently, Simone starred alongside Rachel Griffiths in feature film PATRICK, and UPPER MIDDLE BOGAN for the ABC.  Her film BOAR, in which she stars alongside Ernie Dingo, Hugh Sheridan and John Jarratt, was recently released in cinemas, nationally.  In 2018 Simone completed her Directors attachment on Australia's longest running serial drama, NEIGHBOURS, and is now one of the regular Directors on the show.  There is no end to her talents as an actor, director and trainer, and we are incredibly proud to have her as our Patron.

KYM VALENTINE has been working as an actor on Australian Television since she was 4 years old. With over 1000 episodes of NEIGHBOURS under her belt (across 20 years as Ramsay Street’s beloved Libby Kennedy), when it comes to fast turn around TV, Kym is an undeniable wealth of knowledge and industry know-how that any Australian emerging actor would be privileged to learn from.  We are delighted to welecome her back to the studio in Term 1, 2020.
