Click here St. Paul West Bridge being removed Nov. 18 – Nov. 20November 11, 2024 Niagara Region is taking the next step in its GO Precinct Development Project with plans to dismantle and remove the existing St. Paul West Bridge from Nov. 18 – Nov. 20. This is a major milestone in the multi-year project which includes construction of a new bridge and upgrades to the St. Catharines Train Station and Transit Hub site works, work on a Station access road from Ridley Road to the Train Station and the reconstruction of Ridley Road. The existing St. Paul West Bridge spans overtop of an active Canadian National Railway (CNR) corridor, so CNR will be suspending train service on the tracks below the bridge for two days to allow the Region’s contractor to complete the work. Dismantling and removing the bridge in the short timeframe will require extended working hours and an exemption to the noise by-law has been approved by the City of St. Catharines for this period to allow the work to be completed quickly. Residents in the area may notice activity and noise at unexpected times. Areas around the bridge will be restricted during the work, and there will be various road closures and detours to facilitate the work as well as impacts to transit service in the area. The existing pedestrian route across the bridge will also be closed and will remain closed until the new bridge is constructed.
A complete list of closures, detours and service impacts are detailed below: The detours are as follows: Vehicle Access Westbound St. Paul Street West:
Vehicle Access Eastbound St. Paul Street West:
