Cool Stuff Around the Co-op
Can You (Re)Use a Really Big Jug?The Co-op participates in Philadelphia's single-stream recycling program, but we know there are issues about how plastics actually get handled. So we've started pulling some of our used food containers and making them available free for you to upcycle — for hauling water, composting, turning into a camp toilet ... if you can picture it, you can use it! Visit The Garage at 542 Carpenter Lane to see what's "in stock." Questions? Email Alisa Shargorodsky.

NEXT WEEK: FOW Wants You for National Trails DaySaturday, June 3, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Wissahickon Valley Park
Weavers Way Working Members can earn hours volunteering with the Friends of the Wissahickon
on National Trails Day. - The Wissahickon’s 50 miles of natural-surface trail feel the effect of more than 1.1 million user visits a year, in addition to the impact of increased storm water flows due to the urban landscape that surrounds the park. To keep them functioning, as well as to keep excess soil out of our waterways, the trails require maintenance — clearing drains, narrowing user-widened trails and maintaining proper slopes. That's where you come in. To sign up to work, contact volunteer coordinator Christina Anthony at anthony@fow.org or
215-247-0417, ext. 351.
- Or join FOW as they partner with United by Blue, REI and the City of Philadelphia for the first Devils Pool cleanup of summer 2017. UBB has partnered with more than 10 REI stores in the northeastern U.S. for a two-week cleanup road trip and are kicking off their “trash-trek” at Devil's Pool. Volunteers will receive an exclusive Cleanup Crew trucker hat! Sign up here.
